NBA 1* (501) MIAMI HEAT +1

The Orlando Magic made a desperate trade in December in hope of turning their season around, and for a while it worked as they went on to win 9straight games before a reality check made its apparition. That winning streak has some curious things to take a look; they beat the mighty San Antonio Spurs on a back to back, they received the Celtics in a revenge game from last Christmas and they were without Rondo, after that it doesn’t get better as they took on New Jersey and Cleveland on the road only to come home and see more favorable matchups. They beat the Knicks, Warriors, Bucks (without Jennings), Rockets and Mavericks (without Dirk) and then things got ugly.

They lost at New Orleans, Oklahoma, Boston, Chicago and Memphis while winning only to Philly (lucky), Toronto, Minnesota, Houston, Indiana and Cleveland. Hence I think by now it’s clear they have been either lucky or just better than the really bad teams but with no success with the good teams. And that’s exactly what Miami is, and what’s not to like about the Heat these days? A top5 team in FG% and efficiency in both sides of the court, top10 rebounding team a talented and cohesive unit eager to beat a division rival. The loss of Reddick and Bass is terrible news as they bring defense and some much needed size and also bad news for them is that the rest of the players don’t really defend and when you don’t defend the 4th most efficient offense in the league can get crazy. On the other side, yes, the Heat doesn’t have a perfect matchup for Howard (who has it?) but they do have one of the best defenses when it comes to rotate and help fill the void. Hence expect the Magic to have a difficult time scoring as they will always have a hand on its face and when that happens for a team that depends so heavily on the 3point shooting the night could turn ugly.

The Heat has not been great in this point spread at 3-2 ATS as a 3 or less point dog, but the Magic has been dreadful as a 3 or less point favorite at 3-8 ATS. I expect that trend to continue the line has already moved from 2 to 1, go and get the best number.

Take the Heat
