Friday's NBA System Play

Memphis -6 over Indiana

Not only is Indiana surprisingly bad, but they match up really poorly with Memphis. Randolph and Gasol will dominate the glass inside against the softer big men from Indy - and even more importantly, the big guards of Memphis will crash the glass consistently over the smaller Ford, Rush, etc. that Indy trots out in the backcourt. I see this game being a 15-16 point win with the fast-improving Grizzlies just taking it to Indiana inside while the Pacers launch up Murphy and Dunleavy outside shots hoping to hit a high percentage.

Take Memphis and lay the points....

His results in years past for the system have been very very good. The .500 record this year is a shame compared to years past, but obviosly the system just started to qualify and hopefully it'll pick up. Goodluck action

Thanks guys - I don't mind explaining..... (I usually do once a year)

My system mainly focuses on rebounding and defensive stats, because in my opinion these are not only the two most important factors in deciding winners/losers in basketball, but also the most predictable stats. Teams like Phoenix rely on shooting a superior percentage - but this can fluctuate from night to night. Rebounding and defense are basically based on effort and size- and in my experience this is far more predictable night after night.

I came up with this in 1991 and have only had one losing season. (I'm always reluctant to post this because inevitably some douche will go "SUUUUURE you did" - so take it or leave it, right?) Sure, there have been some years where it was only marginally positive as well - but only one negative. I have been posting these picks on here for at least 5 years (I lost count) - and have not had a losing year with this system in that time frame. Some years have been downright ridiculous - I remember one year where we went 31-5 for instance. It usually comes in around 60-66%.

The system starts at Thanksgiving - so we are just getting going. Usually I'll have about 40-45 picks per year. Since my theory is based on rebounding and defensive advantages, you'll notice some trends that I take a lot of the same teams over and over - but when the spot is right. For instance, tonight we have Memphis - who is the top rebounding team in the whole league playing against Indiana - one of the worst rebounding teams. (You get the idea)

And thanks for the compliment Bee - I love betting the NBA and have always had the most consistent success with it - much of it I've been able to share with the CM forum too. Most people ignore the NBA but to me it's the most non-emotion based and predictable handicapping there is.

Sure - love it when they go exactly according to plan. Gasol & Randolph had 30 rebounds between them and were 17-32 for 43 points. Murphy went 3-12 shooting from the outside, and Indiana as a whole got outworked on the boards 48-42 for a 13 point win for Memphis.

I'll be playing against Indiana tomorrow as well in all likelihood - check back tomorrow morning.....hopefully we can start a streak and get off this .500 record.
