Malone and payton were terrible when they joined the lakers, so no that was not the best roster ever.

in terms of the names on the roster, and their positions as all-time greats, that Lakers team was probably the best ever... but like Masta said, Payton and Malone were nowhere close to their peak ability... they were role players on that team...
