If Kobe is out for the play-offs, who wins the west?

Really? That's bold. I don't see it happening, though.

1. He'll play

2. Denver has done nothing to change the matchup problems they had last year

Lakers vs Cavs nothing is going to de-rail that train....not to mention the NBA would die to have that matchup so it will happen....

Mavs if they pull off a trade for Butler and Haywood.

exactly. The problem Denver has with LA is twofold: 1) Kobe is just a better version of carmello. 2) The Lakers frontcourt is SO much longer and more atheltic than Denver's. Lakers in 6 again.

Mavs wouldn't even force a game 6 against LA. (WIth or without Butler)

Feel free to sleep on the mavs but they just got a whole lot better which for a team of their ranking already (top 10) should scare people.

I'm not sleeping on them. I fully realize that they got a lot better with the trade and are a very, very good basketball team. The problem is, the Lakers are still markedly. In my opinion, when the Lakers feel like playing, they are still easily the best team in the NBA. I know everyone is going gaga over Cleveland right now but my money is still on the Lakers. They simply have the most talent in the league and they have the best clutch scorer in the league. (and I still contend he's the best player) They have experience and they are the defending champs. As long as they are hungry, they will be an awfully tough out in a 7 game series. Sorry, I just don't see Dallas taking them past 5.
