Cavaliers' James acknowledges driving 101 mph

January 14, 2008

CLEVELAND (AP) -- LeBron James acknowledged driving 101 mph on the highway on his 23rd birthday, and gave no assurance he wouldn't go that fast again. The Cleveland Cavaliers superstar was ticketed by the State Highway Patrol on Interstate 71 in suburban Medina at nearly 3 a.m. on Dec. 30. He was driving in a 65 mph zone, and the patrol said it's the first time James was ticketed.

"I was doing 101," James said Monday after practice. "That's it. I was speeding. I've just got to abide by the law. I got caught. It happens."

Lawyer Colin Jennings filed a not guilty plea for James in Medina Municipal Court. A hearing is scheduled for Feb. 11, when the Cavaliers play in Orlando.

When James was asked if he will continue traveling at such speed, he said: "I don't know, maybe at times. It's not a big deal to me. You've just got to abide by the rules that's all. I made a mistake and I'll live with it."

James said he was heading home after the team arrived in Cleveland from New Orleans, where they had lost to the Hornets a few hours earlier. "I'm not going to jail or nothing like that," he said. "I wasn't drunk. I was just speeding. That's it."

Yeah LeBron, you were only going 101, no big deal at all. You could have plowed into someones car, lost control of your own, hit someone, any number of things, but you weren't drunk, you were just speeding, that's it!

people speed all over this country every frigging day. lebron just happens to drive a car that makes driving 101 feel like cruising at 55 in your average sedan.

total nonstory here, but the media was on their toes because he got pulled over at 3 am on his birthday unitl they found out he was just going home from the airport.
