Lets face it if Dirk......

Was a true blue American, he would get far more credit for his career, in the media and public perception in the US.

Same goes abit for Ichiro. Agree or disagree?

within their respective sports circles they are highly acknowledged...within the usa media overall, not so much...could be a good chance that variable has to do with it

I disagree. It's because he is not flashy. Post Jordan era we had the Starburys and Vinsanitys of the world take over.

Now only highlight dunks earn respect, endorsements, and air time.

I think he would be even less recognized if he was black or American.

White-Euro aspect helps him stand out a little.

I agree. ESPN and the media are all about the flash and dunks. Dirk can barely jump over a dime, yet averages 25 points every season. Because he is not flashy they do not care to talk about him.

I think Ichiro is also hurt by the facts that he is in Seattle and speaks very little English.

Yeah agree. Unusual also he has stuck with the Mariners for so long when they have done next to nothing in the postseason.

the whole league MVP then losing to an 8 seed in the first round of the playoffs might have something to do with it too

and no i'm not saying it was dirk's fault, but when you're the league MVP and easily the best player on your team, you're not supposed to let your team lose to an 8 seed, ever

he's just had the knock of the guy who can't win a big game or series. he doesn't anymore and believe me PLENTY of people saw it in this year's playoffs and especially the finals. tons of fringe fans who wouldn't have watched if it was the bulls and mavs instead did watch to see lebron and wade.
