Pistons coach Saunders wont be back next season

AUBURN HILLS, Mich. (AP)—The Detroit Pistons say Flip Saunders won’t be back next season after leading the team to three straight appearances in the Eastern Conference finals.
President of basketball operations Joe Dumars said Tuesday a change is necessary despite Saunders’ successes.
In his three seasons, the Pistons were 176-70 in the regular season and 30-21 in the postseason, but they lost in the conference finals each year.
Saunders had a year left on a four-year deal he signed in 2005. He replaced Larry Brown, who won a title in two trips to the NBA finals.

I agree with this decision. I think Detroit's performance was embarrassing. They do have some knuckleheads, but Larry Brown got them to play. Saunders may very well be a good coach, but wrong for this team. They need someone to kick em in the butt, more than once.

not for another year or so i don't think. but who is the coach to take over?

brown made them play lockdown D all game, every game, flip let them run. flip has proven inept at playoff coaching, the final game really said it all. up by 10 end of the 3rd Q at home, they had no plan in Q4 and got blown away

Can't break that team up now that they have Stuckey and Maxiell.

They should however, offload Wallace

pistons seem to have done something similar to this before...carlisle had a solid record as a coach for them and they told him to hit the road as they did to saunders

Great move, don't rate him....now get Curry in there.

That was not good enough. He should have done more with this team. Last year losing to Cleveland after being up 2-0 with homecourt was inexcusable. I wished they would have bagged him then. He was consistantly outcoached come playoff time.

Time for a shake up and I hope they dont stop with only the coach.
