Report: Iverson has gambling, alcohol problems
Allen Iverson's personal life continues to unravel amid reports that the former Philadelphia 76ers guard has been plagued by "excessive drinking" and gambling according to the Philadelphia Inquirer.
Iverson's season - and possibly his career - came to an end Tuesday when the Sixers announced he would not return in order to care for his ailing 4-year-old daughter. On Thursday, Iverson's wife, Tawanna, filed for divorce, declaring that her 8 1/2-year marriage to the basketball star was "irretrievably broken." "Drinking and the casinos: Allen was always doing one thing, or was at the other. No one who knows him can deny it," an NBA official told the Inquirer. The newspaper cited several NBA sources with knowledge of the situation in reference to the alleged drinking and gambling problems of the four-time league scoring champion. In addition, Iverson reportedly is facing a number of civil lawsuits.
