Shaq seeking $10 million deal to play in Europe
How can this guy possibly need the money?!? $10 mil should be pocket change to him.
Aging star Shaquille O'Neal is testing the European market in an attempt to sign a $10 million contract for the upcoming season, according to a report in the Cleveland Plain Dealer. According to the report, O'Neal is seeking $10 million to play overseas in an effort to grab one more big payday before he retires. The report did not mention what European teams O'Neal's agent had approached. O'Neal could re-sign with the Cleveland Cavaliers for about $6 million. Other NBA teams interested in O'Neal's services in what would be his 19th season in the league are the San Antonio Spurs, Atlanta Hawks and Boston Celtics, according to a report on ESPN.com. O'Neal, who averaged 12.0 points and 6.7 rebounds per game last season for the Cavs and missed almost half the season with injuries, signed a one-year, $20 million deal with Cleveland last season. The Cavs, who were listed as 8/1 picks to win the NBA title next season before LeBron James bolted for Miami, are now listed at 75/1.

actually a move to europe could be pretty lucrative for him I think. He could lad some endorsements, etc. He is still a pretty known figure worldwide but not pushed oversees because it wouldnt be as effective. Im sure some team in Italy/Spain could use him, dont know if they could pay him though.

He is using it as a ploy & ultimately will end up back in the NBA on a reduced salary when its all said & done.

Shaq can still be an effective force given the right matchup. He could be a decent backup center for a few teams, I think.
I don't blame him for testing the waters overseas. The sun is indeed setting in his NBA career, and getting one nice payday for the upcoming season is an understandable move. Or maybe he could broker a deal to make a sequel to Kazaam! ![]()

Its a no-lose situation for Shaq. He either gets bigger payday in the NBA or he gets $10 milly to play overseas.........lots of people overseas will still pay good money to see him play.
