WCO's NBA Tuesday 10/28

NBA is back, I'm so excited I could shit

NBA wasn't easy last year so going to start slowly and work back in.

Going with just 1 for now, may add later:

*2 -- Milwaukee Bucks @ Chicago Bulls OVER 194½ (-110)

It's the coming out party for Derrick Rose and the baby Bulls. Bulls no longer have the defensive minded, hustle-first coach in Scott Skiles (though I think they tuned him out well before he was fired) so it's on to Vinny Del Negro. Bulls will be plenty energetic tonight and going to try to run on the Bucks.

Larry Hughes being OUT for the Bulls actually makes the over a stronger play for me for 2 reasons. First of all, it's one less Bulls guard with tunnel vision on the court which enables the Bulls to try and run a smooth offense and let Derrick Rose create. The less turnovers and forced shots tonight the better off I am backing the over.

Second, Hughes, with the exception of Thabo Sefolosha (6'7"), is actually the Bulls biggest guard (6'5") and one of their better 1 on 1 defenders. Losing him means plenty of mismatches for Richard Jefferson (6'7") and Michael Redd (6'6") as the Bulls will be platooning guards like Hinrich, Rose, and Ben Gordon who we all know is a defensive liability. Who is going to guard Michael Redd? If they use Deng, that leaves Richard Jefferson. If Thomas is used to guard him, that leaves Villanueva (you see where I'm going with this). Plenty of scoring opportunities on pure size alone for the Bucks tonight.

Speaking of defensive liabilities, I look for the Bucks to try and exploit (with success) the lack of size and athleticism for the Bulls at center. Andrew Bogut had what most would call a breakout season last year and he's only going to improve this season. He has a huge size and strength advantage over Joahkim Noah and the clear cut athletic advantage over Aaron Gray. The Bulls may even have Drew Gooden help out which means a defender out of position and plenty of chances for Bogut, who I also expect to get to the line A LOT tonight.

Derrick Rose will have the entire arena buzzing tonight as well. The Bulls are excited to have a future franchise player and we've already seen flashes of brilliance in the pre-season of what Rose can do. He will help the Bulls get to the line more by slashing as well as setting up teammates like Gooden and Deng a lot more underneath. The Bulls struggled to get to the line all year last year and I think they'll be attacking a lot more this year which means more opportunities to score with the clock stopped.

I'm expecting a sluggish first quarter from both teams, and maybe even the entire half for Chicago as they have traditionally started slow on opening nights with the exception of the Heat game a couple years back when they just rolled right over them and crashed their ring ceremony.

Bulls have been a high scoring 2nd half team over the past few seasons and I look for the same to happen tonight as they will find their groove in the 3rd quarter and start to show signs of what they can do with Rose leading their offense. Not to mention, there's always Ben Gordon who seems to thrive on big scoring in the 4th quarter, so I wouldn't mind seeing the Bulls trail small to start the 4th.

Predicted final - Bulls 103 - Bucks 99

wco- u honestly see ne way bulls can WIN this game (outside the fact its nba)?, let alone cover?

IDK...they didnt impress me at all thru the preseason, not that that is entirely important but still. Thabo cannot put the ball down succesfully and neither can Deng. Capt. Kirk really is the X-factor, i suppose, but a gimpy gordon with oversized guards on him all night and a rookie PG without a center?

PLUS, redd and RJ always seem to torch us, bogut will tonight...Just not a good matchup for bulls.

LOVE your over bet, though, because No way bucks will play a ton of D once they realize how much they can score at will.

read everything you wrote then ask yourself why the bulls are giving 6½, and I think you have your answer.

this is the same team that went to the eastern conference semi-finals 2 years ago minus Ben Wallace and plus Drew Gooden. Hughes being out is addition by subtraction IMO.

Rose is already showing he's NBA ready in some of his pre-season games, he averaged 14 points 5 Dimes. Can't say I'm thrilled with the turnovers but I'll gladly take some of his high risk high reward type plays over ben gordon trying to handle the ball and dribbling it off his foot or Kirk Hinrich stopping for a 17 footer with 19 seconds on the shot clock.

Deng's production has hindered so much as he has never had a truly talented point guard and too often he's been forced to create his own shots, something he really shouldn't be doing as much as he's had to. That's what Rose is here for.

Bulls will pull away late, but I don't think they cover.
