And when you make the wrong #1 pick....

you get shitcanned like Kevin Pritchard did today......At least he can blame the people of Portland who all petitioned and voted that they wanted Greg Oldman instead of the 2nd best player in the entire league Kevin Durant......The perfect irony of the entire situation is his rumored replacement.....the man who drafted Durant second, Sam Presti!

So when you are celebrating getting that first pick and dreaming about how it can turn around your franchise, you better be right, or the clock is ticking on your job.......

you think it was really that obvious Bigsport. Dominant center much harder to find IMO. Just didn't work out for Oden.

Oden had missed significant time with injury at tOSU and half his body was longer than the other half.......there was a lot of concern there, plus the fact that tOSU has never had a superstar athlete come from their school and be a superstar in the pros......ever......

lol you don't pass on greg oden. 99% of GMs would go on record and tell you the same thing. that body/size/defensive prowess never gets passed

you're telling me there haven't been players who have missed time in college that didn't succeed in the nba?

you're telling me there weren't plenty of questions about durant coming out? couldn't bench 185 even once? turnovers?

you don't pass on a guy 7'2" 280lbs with that much athleticism. the guy had so much talent already but he was like a huge ball of clay. not many teams that win titles without dominant big men recently

if i'm not mistaken, the Blazers actually published a poll in The Oregonian, asking the people of Portland who they wanted to draft... which is just one more strike against Pritchard...

Um... no! that's why i said that is "one more strike against Pritchard."

Pritchard is the GM in question... FYI...

Im sorry but there was prob only 5 teams in the league at that time who would have passed on Oden and that was because they were set at that position. I think their were alot more questions about Durant coming out that year than Oden.

speaks the truth.

a guy with that size/skill set and body comes around once every 15/20 years.

Let's not get carried away. though I agree Oden was the clear #1, especially after his fine NCAA run (including dominating Noah in the final game loss), there is no way you can say his talent comes "every 15-20 years"....He is and was not in that class ever.

but a guy with coordination and natural athleticism with no limit to how much he could improve on offense (was already a beast on defense) wrapped up in a 7'2" 280lb frame is what comes along once every 15-20 years

just saying that he was the clear cut #1 and IMO he goes #1 99 times out of 100

when you say 7'2 are you referring to the left half or the right half of his body?
