Worst GM moves before the start of this year?

As a diehard Pistons fan, I nominate Joe Dumars. Villenuaeva and Ben Gordon to huge contracts were the worst moves by far this year, and it will set the franchsie back for years to come.

Dumars has done a ton of great things in Detroit, 1 title and a ton of appearances late in the year....but I never could see why these moves were made. They have had a lot of injuries, but this will never work out in my opinion.

Anybody care to pick a worse offseason?

My thoughts are Dumars all well documented in the below threads. I don't address the Gordon or Charlie V. signings, but its clear that Dumars is disconnected. He is approaching Millen status.

thank you pavlochek
Pistons are terrible......

LOL @ Dumars not knowing what hes doing. Sure some of his moves havent worked out but everything he does is calculated.

The guy takes the team to 6 straight conference title appearances, 2 NBA Finals and an NBA title and in his first full year of rebuilding hes already getting thrown under the bus?

First off Gordon and Villanueva werent signed to enormous deals that have set the team back. If anything its injuries and the lack of a post presence.

I truly believe he will get Prince and Hamilton moved soon and find a solution for the blocks. Pistons will be back in no time and even this year they can make the playoffs if they can ever get their players back healthy at the same time.

Now if Dumars cant get things straightened out in 3 years then start attacking him but its still way too soon IMO

PEACE

Steve Kerr has once again put the Suns in never-never land. He gave up a crap load to get Shaq, which was no mis-calculated its worth firing right there; failed to trade Amare despite the common knowledge that eh will flee at the end of the year; Has drafted the likes of Earl Clark and Tucker from Wisconsin, neither one of whom can find a minute on one of the least-deep teams in the West

After a dangerously overrated fast start, the Sunds have setteled down and know "are who we thought they would be"- a mediocre team with no chance of getting past the first round (or in the playoffs at all); Maxed out in cap space with no young talent excepting Stoudamire who is sure to go with no return

Kerr's contract expires in a year and they better not sign this guy again even if he works for free.

Big mistake when they moved Sean Marion. Team was athletic and could rebound and run the floor with the best of them. Moving Raja Bell also made zero sense. Some teams have the formula for success and for some reason or another think they can make it better and inevitably only make it worse.

The new version of the Suns is fun to watch but like you said has no shot of advancing far in the playoffs.

I agree that overall Dumars has done a good job through the years, no doubt they have had success. I am just specifically talking about these two signings, which I think were bad moves.

These 2 signings havent crippled them financially. They are average sized deals and if they can somehow get rid of Hamilton and Prince and land a stud through trade/FA/draft Villanueva and Gordon are very young and above average players in this league.

This team isnt as far off as their record might indicate IMO.
