Ontario may follow other provinces and allow online gambling: McGuinty

"Paul Godfrey, the freshly minted chairman of Ontario Lottery and Gaming, said last week he wants the province to provide Internet gambling instead of watching potential revenues go to other provinces and offshore websites."

Could this mean proline moving to the internet?

I will not post the link here but most of you can find the story on any of your daily news papers.

Let's start a discussion to hear your thoughts.

I know that customers in some of the other provinces already have the option to buy their Proline tickets on the internet. Personally I would never use such a service.

What other forms of online gambling would they consider?

Poker? That might interest me.

Yes from what i've read, poker is one of them.
I definitely like the fact if I'm running late and dont have time to make it to the store that I can simply just jump on the interwebs and get my ticket.

Im sure this would come beneficial to many others as well

I would definitely take advantage of purchasing my proline tickets online.......
-avoid lineups at the retailer
-avoid retailers who don't know how to feed the completed slip into the machine
-avoid retailers, in particular retailers with young kids, who want to tail what you play. Have stopped going to certain stores so that I would have no influence on young kids who shouldnt be playing
-no more mysterious trips to the milk store - pretty sure the mrs. doesn think I really need to buy milk one quart at a time, 3 times a day (exageration but you get my drift)
-might as well save a few pennies on gas

another thing to think about; if it is allowed...would there be tax implications?! i'm sure if they did proline online; there would be some sort of 'file' for you and all the money spent/won and i'm sure revenue canada would want to get in on it

Lottery wins, including proline, are considered non-taxable income. I see no reason why it would matter if the wager was made at the retailer or at the lotto's online site.

Serious question........and what is the risk that they know what you wager and win?

Synyster, your winning payout will be credited to your online account which you can then deposit into your chequing account or you can ask for a cheque to be mailed to your residence.

This is what is happening in BC and the Atlantic and i suppose it will be the same for other provinces when everything is up and running.

Actually a pretty smart idea. If they improved their payouts and allowed single games I would play online.

stankic, I would hazard a guess that we will see online gaming (for Ontario residents) before we see single game on ProLine.

This is for a very simple fact that online gaming is already up and running in other provinces while single game wagering will require amendment to the Criminal Code. I do not think the latter is a priority for Rob Nicholson, the Minister of Justice.
