Paying Out

Does anyone know why mac's won't pay out ANYTHING but small privately owned convenience stores will pay out up to 900?

Mac's has always been stingy so i never cash out there......i had a 60 dollar ticket today....was making a 40 dollar bet so figured they would pay me out the 20 bucks.....but she refused and said she had no cash in her till...frustrating..

I cant asnwer specifically but I thought stores had an obligation to make a minimum payout, or at least try to satisfy the customer. For just $20 I would send an inquiry to OLG.

It's a credit/interac society now. They don't always have cash on hand. And if they do get an influx of cash, they put it in the safe on a regular basis so as to limit the loss in case of a robbery. You may have caught them just after they locked some in their safe. You just have to know the places to go and ignore the chains like that. You can play at those places, but go to the Mom and Pops to cash out.

Mac's and Avondale stores are completely useless for cashing out, and playing more than a few tickets in any one visit usually results in an annoying groan or sigh from the cashier. I've also noticed that some of these stores in my area actually have to scan each ticket in order to ring up the total sale! F--- that!

Mom and Pop stores are definitely the way to go. Try to make a habit of going in to the store when the owner is working, which is usually early morning (6-8 am). Most of all my winning tickets are used to buy more tickets but when I do need cash, I always use the same store. I just give the owner a little notice: "Lee, I'll need cash next week", and sure enough there's precounted bundles under the counter ready for my next visit. The 2% tip I give him when cashing out doesn't hurt either.

Don't increase their lotto tickets sales volumes if they don't pay out winning tickets

Macs Milk haha, they have pretty much disappeared around Toronto. Funny thing about this thread is that I was in the Leaside area on Christmas and went to a local store to pick up some gravy and it turned out to be a Macs. They used to be everywhere.

BTW, Dont bother tipping these convenience stores, they already make money when you buy the ticket and when you cash it

Forgot to mention that Macs probably has a policy like 7-11 has/had. Sign on the window saying not more than $100 kept in the til or something to that effect.

You are just being nice to the store's owner right

According to Hasty Market store's owner where I play proline tickets sometimes , a certain fee or percentage (commission ) is given to the store for paying out winning tickets.

I forgot how much he told me but I had to ask him because he told me once about how many winning tickets he paid out ( over 2,500 dollars) after NFL weekend.

I also wanted to understand why he asked me to cash out at his store

IMHO best place to cash out winning tickets (up to 990 dollars) is the lotto kiosk at Woodbine casino(if you live in the GTA)

Never had any issues ( proper ID is required for more than 300 dollars)

Go to the Green Wood offtrack at Queen and Kingston Rd. No id required for tickets under $1000

Also subway kiosks you'll have no trouble putting down money or cashing.

Winning has that effect on me. Keep in mind that the 2% is coming out of profit only and not the total amout spent but I'll admit that I do consider this particular store owner to be a friend. He's been very good to me over my Proline years in regards to playing large quantitys on short notice, always having cash on hand... etc. So $20 for every $1000 cash in my pocket seems reasonable in my mind. Do you tip the dealer when you win big at the casino?

My understanding is that the store owner receives "interest" on the amount cashed which is currently around 1%. One month's interest on $1000 is around 83 cents.

The store gets 5% when you buy a ticket and 2% when they pay out. Good deal for them. All my store owners are my friends, and I don't feel any need to tip them. In fact, they give me free chocolate bars for my kids. And we exchange Christmas gifts, etc. But no tipping.

7% is pretty sweet deal for them. Some of these convenience stores make some good money. One store I visit regularly the guy sells coffee on the side. Told me he averages 100 + cups sold per day. And I believe him. Coffee costs dick, so the guy is making $30K a year on coffee. And no one would ever tip an online book.
