UFC bantamweight top contender is facing a sanction in Nevada for his post-fight celebration at UFC 235.

Pedro Munhoz is currently temporarily suspended by the Nevada Athletic Commission and that suspension is up for an extension, pending a hearing or settlement agreement, at the next NAC meeting Wednesday in Las Vegas.

Munhoz is facing discipline for his celebration on top of the cage after knocking out Cody Garbrandt at UFC 235 earlier this month

“Our inspectors were specifically advised by me to make sure the fighters knew they were not authorized to jump out of the cage,” Bennett said.

The policy is in place to protect a fighter from injuring himself or herself or others in the area, Bennett said. It doesn’t have anything to do with the UFC 229 post-fight brawl involving Conor McGregor and Khabib Nurmagomedov

This is a policy that was put into place long before that and was also an issue with Justin Gaethje did a back flip off the cage after beating Michael Johnson at the TUF 25 Finale in 2017. Other commissions have also enforced a similar rule. It’s unclear if Munhoz will face a full suspension or just a fine from the NAC.

NAC rules state: “An unarmed combatant shall not leave the ring or, if the contest or exhibition is being held in a fenced area, the fenced area, during any period of rest that follows a period of unarmed combat.”

7 weeks before a scheduled UFC 237 meeting with Alexander Volkanovsk, former featherweight champion Jose Aldo has been hospitalized with a bacterial infection in Rio de Janeiro.

Aldo has been in the hospital since Wednesday due to an infection stemming from a small cut on his knee. The report says the antibiotics treatment didn’t work at first but he responded after 24 hours and has been fever-free since Thursday night.

The illness casts doubt in Aldo’s ability to meet Volkanovski in the May 11 card, since there would need to be a vast improvement in his condition over the next week in order for him to be cleared by doctors to compete.

Just an FYI ...

There are some reports that McGregor and Masvidal are in talks to fight this summer. No truth to that at all ... That’s not the current direction and no talks surrounding that fight.

Alex Oliveira needs a new opponent for UFC Fort Lauderdale.

Ten days after the UFC announced that Cowboy was going to meet Li Jingliang at UFC’s return to Sunrise, Fla. on April 27, the Chinese welterweight was forced out of the contest

According to sources, Jingliang suffered a neck and back injury and hasn’t been training well for days. The company is currently looking for a new name to face Oliveira.

Urijah Faber tells Ariel Helwani that he was offered two fights last year: Cub Swanson & Korean Zombie.

Faber said he was tempted to take them, but he didn't want to take them on a whim.

Faber admits he is thinking of returning to the UFC ... He is still in the testing pool.

In fact, Faber was tested in the latest round of USADA tests added to the database.

"We're changing the name of the team to Team Alpha MMA."

Faber says it made sense as they have male and female fighters in the team.
