California to Stop Welfare Payments

The State of California, which is broke and in major debt, has announced that it will not pay State Income Tax refunds, Welfare, or other monies that are earmarked for the elderly effective Feb. 1. If the State can not agree on a budget (a fight that has been going on since last July), IOU's will be issued starting in April. Even if an agreement is reached, and monies are found, payments cold be delayed until April, or later.

Now my question is simple. What can California do to obtain more income? It is obvious that the millions of welfare recipients (both legal and illegal) have drained the economy dry. The housing debacle out here was totally rediculous, with banks loanng money for $500,000 homes to people who could not afford $250,000 homes. The business taxes are very high. The gasoline taxes are amongst the highest in the nation. The federal government is so screwed up that they can not loan the state any money.

Millions of Californians are now going to suffer. Unfortunately many of them are the elderly, who are on a fixed income. This is going to be a disaster of major porportions, and the State of California has absolutely no clue as to how to stop spending money and get themselves out of this mess. I wonder if the protestors will take to the streets. I can see the Hispanic community going nuts when they finally realize that they are not going to get that monthly check that they live on. The City of Los Angeles is going to try and pick up the slack, but all that will do is bankrupt them. A sad commentary on a State that has a Governor that knows nothing about governing the state, and an ultra Liberal Assembly and Senate that can do nothing but spend money to save their jobs.

Unfortunately, Indian land is not the property of theState of California. Technically, they are their own Independent State. The Voters had a chance to allow gaming at various race tracks across California, but Arnold the Idiot came out against it and the mneausre was defeated.

The overall anwer is simple to me....but it is a longer range plan.....

Cut taxes of those that are in position to invest and create in jobs to encourage them to invest in your state as opposed to investing out of your state......

In the immediete...u need to declare an emergency and as for federal aid...ask them to invest in you like bonds or so forth...but whatever you can do let the system reset itself naturally you should allow..anything else is a bailout and delays the inevitable....

I certainly agree with your long term plans, but this state keeps raising taxes. As far as bonds go, the State has such a low rating that no one will invest in them. They have tried that. They have also tried to get "bailout" money, with no aparent success.
If the state got rid on a few million of the illegals who live in it, and bleed the welfare system dry, this would not have happened, but the State will not do that either. Democratic lawmakers think that the State of California should become one big Ellis Island.
