Read Red Fisher's column from this weekend on the Halak trade. Fisher's been the Habs beat writer for a century, and rarely rips the team. And did he ever lean into Gauthier for this questionable trade.

But yeah, time will tell. From what I've read these 2 prospects are not A level, but you never know. Lars Eller is another in the long line of great hockey players from Denmark. lol.

Who knows, maybe Halak flops under the burden of being an undisputed number one and this Danish guy turns out to be great.
Thats a great point Slammer, I could entertain the thought of Halak flopping under the heavy workload. My guess is that Halak and Price despite this past playoff season are fairly equal.

Red Fisher rips/questions this team habitually, but I do agree here, these two prospects are what was the best bid for the hottest goalie in the playoffs??....come on....whether a sell high scenario or not, and Halak flops, considering the goaltending situation of quite a few teams, they could have got more than this imo....

gauthier is good hard working scout...nothing more...fact....that's word amongst many in the game.

This deal could turn out like the Tor and Boston deal, and Tuuka was far from proven compared to Halak.

I'm not sure Halak is any kind of an upgrade from Chris Mason, who is still making less than $2 mill per season after signing in Atlanta and he proved to be a very capable #1 goalie for both the Blues and Preds.

It's possible Montreal let Halak go because he was a restricted free agent and they didn't want to blow their brains out resigning him. Or be faced with the choice of matching some outrageous offer sheet that could still be coming his way or letting him get away for nothing. At least with this trade they got something tangible back.

I don't know the details of their cap situation, but with Gomez, Gionta, Cammaleri and now Plekanec making big bucks, it suggests that they may not have been able to make the financial commitment to Halak that he was expecting.
