Penguins Fans Rated No. 1 in NHL By Forbes

Pens fans are the best: We all knew this already, but now Forbes has made it official: the Penguins have the best fans in the NHL. Toronto was second, and Philadelphia finished third.

Said the magazine:

“For the 2008-09 season, we ranked teams based on average regular-season home game attendance as a percentage of arena capacity, regular-season local television ratings as a percentage of the team’s metro area population and team merchandise sales. Pens fans emerged the most fanatical.

“They consumed the most team merchandise last season, led by jersey sales of NHL poster boy Sidney Crosby and Art Ross Trophy and Conn Smythe Trophy winner Evgeni Malkin. Televised games drew an average 72,644 households each on FSN Pittsburgh. On top of that, the Igloo, as Mellon Arena is affectionately, known, sold out every game in the 2008-09 season – the second year in a row.”

That list doesn't tell the whole story. The true list by someone that actually watches and understands hockey is as follows:

1.Leafs (the #1 fans in ALL sports)
2.Any other Canadian team
3.other original six
4.the rest

I would challenge anyone from Pittsburgh to remain a fan if their team came in LAST place every year like Toronto and haven't even come close since 1967. Hockey would not exist and its evident by pre-Crosby when the team had no fans, no money, no interest and was on the verge of folding. Forbes my ass.

Check the TV ratings, not even close, Canada thaTS all you got

during the dark years (01-05), the Penguins had some of the highest TV ratings in the NHL each year

This is garbage. Their crowd is so quiet until the ends of games - and they are bandwagoners. They almost moved the team away from Pitt a few years ago - would that ever happen in Montreal?

This thread is comedy. #1 fans Forbes LMFAO are you kidding me? All the Canadian teams would have more die hard fans than any American team anyday of the week. What kind of joke thread is this?

Exactly thats how you judge a teams fan base. When you are losing and the building is still sold out.

This is absolutely laughable. In the past I would 100% agree that Leafs fans were bar none the most dedicated and knowledgeable. Today though is different. It's far too many corporate dummies that are filling the seats at the ACC, people that know nothing about Hockey. The average Leaf fan of today is bias, ill informed, and down right ignorant to the sport.

lol 4 years ago: Pens worst fans in NHL

team almost collapses, and then get two of the best players in the NHL .. no **** for the meantime they are the best fans. They have the most to chear about.

in another 4 years it will be a different team.

Leafs will always stay number 2 until they start to make it to the playoffs, and they'll be back to #1..

So in reality, the leafs fans are much better than Pittsburgh's fans .. but the Penguins are much better then the Leafs, so go figure.

Who the **** would want to live in Pittsburgh anyways? Canada's equivalent to Pittsburgh is Hamilton, and I am from hamilton and have been to pittsburgh and they both suck.

do you really think anyone cares about this....i mean, you can see some of our friendly boys from the north defending Canada which i still think has the best hockey fans in the world, but when you live in a shit hole like pittsburgh what else are you going to gravitate to. yes....a winning hockey team. you act like Pitt has been the model hockey team in the history of the NHL. you guys have had two good runs in your franchise only from being SOOOOOOOOO bad you finally got the best draft choices...other than that....who the F--- cares....

nobody is a hater...you think we all care. crawl back into your suburban Pitt existance and just be a normal poster here...you will go farther
