A question for those in Keeper leagues

When do you declare the players you will keep.

This is the first year we are doing Keepers and some would like to not make the announcement until the player is drafted by another..seems stupid to me

All thoughts are appreciated

What? You wouldn't have to designate keepers before the draft?

Is draft order already determined? How many keepers?

I would wait until after the last preseason game, at least. My one keeper league is that they have to be designated by Sept. 1st.

No one can keep a player who was drafted in the first 3 rounds. So Keepers are those that were taken in round 4 or later

Thanks for your help, and you also Jack LOL

Our draft is held in mid August think this year is the 22. We have to declare our keepers the week prior (15th) and we will determine the draft order which still gives people a week to tweak strategies, do mocks, or whatever is needed in the mean time.

I commish 2 keeper leagues(10 team and a 14 team league) and we normally have our keepers turned in about a week before our draft. We try to have our drafts as late as possible but hard to get everyone together, especially in the 14 team league, so it varies each year. This year we are holding our draft Sunday night before Labor day, so the entire preseason will be done which will be great.

we do our keepers different from most leagues. We assign points to a player based on when he is drafted. 1st round- 6pts, 2nd round-5 pts, 3rd round-4 pts, 4 round-3 pts, 5th round- 3 pts, 6-9th round- 2pts, 10th round and beyond- 1pt. When a player is drafted he is given a 4 year contract, so a player can be kept up to 4 years, then must go back into the draft. If a player is traded, his contract goes with him. We are allowed to keep up to 15 pts each year. So finding those sleepers as 1 or 2 pointers in late rounds can be very rewarding.

Bottom line, about a week before your draft is a good time to declare keepers in a keeper league...

Thanks for responding Wabash.

What are the trade offs for the keepers? I.E..If one keeps 4 players totaling 12 points in value, what draft positions does he lose?

draft order is based on previous years finish just like the real thing. The league winner gets last pick in draft and the rest is based on previous year record. We have 18 man rosters, so if a team keeps 4 players, he will get 14 draft picks. If a team keeps 3, he gets 15 draft picks. Usually by the 13th or 14th round only a few teams are still drafting...

We do an auction keeper league, and our rule is that keepers must be declared by August 1. We then have the draft around two weeks later.
