Good Luck and Have A Great Day

The runaway train known as the Golden State Warriors (35-14 SU, 22-26-1 ATS) is steamrolling through the league once again. The two-time defending champions finished off their 10th consecutive victory in Saturday’s 115-111 triumph over the Celtics as a 3 -point road favorites. Kevin Durant led the Warriors with 33 points, while Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson combined for 45 points. Golden State is riding a nine-game winning streak away from Oracle Arena, while going 13-1 SU and 8-6 ATS in the past 14 games away from the Bay Area.

The Pacers (32-16 SU, 25-23 ATS) are dealing with life after Victor Oladipo as the guard is sidelined for the rest of the season following a gruesome leg injury suffered last Wednesday against Toronto. In the first game post-Oladipo, Indiana fell behind early at Memphis on Saturday and never recovered in a 106-103 setback as five-point favorites. The loss ended a three-game winning streak for the Pacers, while Indiana sailed OVER the total for the first time in five contests.

Indiana is listed as a home underdog for the fourth time this season, as the Pacers own a perfect 3-0 SU/ATS mark after beating the Celtics, Jazz, and Bucks at Bankers Life Fieldhouse. The Pacers swept the Warriors last season, but those results are skewed as Golden State played without Curry, Thompson, Durant, and Draymond Green in a 92-81 home defeat. In the second matchup in Indianapolis, Curry remained sidelined in a 126-106 victory by the Pacers as a short ‘dog, ending a two-game home skid to the Warriors.

The Celtics (30-19 SU, 25-24 ATS) saw their five-game winning streak come to a halt in Saturday’s 115-111 setback to the Warriors. Boston and Golden State went back-and-forth in the fourth quarter, but the Celtics scored only thee points in the final 2:30 minutes to suffer its first home loss since December 21 to Milwaukee.

Boston welcomes in Brooklyn for their third meeting this month as the two Atlantic division rivals have split the first two matchups. The Celtics routed the Nets at TD Garden, 116-95 as 10 -point favorites on January 7, but Brooklyn bounced back a week later at home, 109-102 as 2 -point underdogs. Kyrie Irving sat out in the contest at Barclays Center as the Nets outscored the Celtics, 44-21 in the fourth quarter. Both matchups finished UNDER the total, while Boston has won five straight home meetings with Brooklyn.

The Nets (27-23 SU, 28-22 ATS) have vaulted to the sixth seed in the Eastern Conference playoffs heading into Monday’s action, while seeking their seventh straight victory. Brooklyn will be without bench spark Spencer Dinwiddie (17.2 ppg) for the next month with torn ligaments in his right thumb. The Nets have won four of their last six games away from Barclays Center, but Brooklyn owns an 0-3 SU/ATS record as a double-digit underdog this season.

sailfish 01-28-2019 09:00 AM

The Nuggets (33-15 SU, 27-21 ATS) continue to dominate at home by improving to 22-4 at Pepsi Center following Saturday’s 126-110 victory over the short-handed 76ers. Nikola Jokic kept up his MVP-caliber season by scoring 32 points, pulling down 18 rebounds, and dishing out 10 assists for Denver, who cashed the OVER for the seventh straight game.

However, Denver has struggled on the highway by compiling an 11-11 record, while starting the season with an 8-4 road mark. Seven losses in the last 10 road games doesn’t bode well for the Nuggets, who play six of the next seven away from Pepsi Center, starting Monday in Memphis.

The Grizzlies (20-30 SU, 20-30 ATS) snapped an eight-game losing streak in Saturday’s 106-103 mild upset of the Pacers as five-point home underdogs. Memphis pulled off this win after losing to Sacramento the night before, as the Grizzlies started this five-game homestand at 0-3. The Grizzlies and Nuggets have split two meetings this season with the home team winning each time, while Memphis knocked off Denver at FedEx Forum as short underdogs in November.

sailfish 01-28-2019 09:00 AM

The Clippers (28-22 SU, 28-22 ATS) have gone through plenty of ups and downs this season, but Los Angeles is currently on the uptick. Following a five-game skid earlier this month, the Clippers have won four of their last five contests, while seeking their fourth consecutive win on Monday. Los Angeles topped Sacramento for the third time this season in Sunday’s 122-108 triumph at Staples Center. The Clippers knocked down 27-of-29 free throws, while Montrezl Harrell posted 25 points off the bench on 11-of-13 shooting.

Los Angeles is playing with no rest for the ninth time this season, compiling a 4-4 SU and 5-3 ATS mark, while hitting the OVER six times. The Clippers host the Hawks (15-33 SU, 21-27 ATS), who are in the midst of five straight road games against Western Conference opponents. Atlanta lost at Portland on Saturday, 120-111 as 8 -point underdogs, but received a solid output from rookie Trae Young, who scored 30 points on 11-of-15 from the floor. The Hawks will be looking to avenge a 127-119 home loss to the Clippers in November, as L.A. outscored Atlanta, 38-23 in the fourth to cash as 6 -point favorites.

sailfish 01-28-2019 09:00 AM

It’s been a long season in the Big Apple, as the Knicks (10-38 SU, 21-26 ATS) sit at the bottom of the Atlantic division. New York lost its ninth straight game in Sunday’s defeat to Miami, while dropping 11 consecutive contests at Madison Square Garden. The Knicks will try to turn around their luck with a trip to Charlotte looking to beat the Hornets for the second time this season.

The last time the Knicks faced the Hornets on December 14, New York trailed Charlotte by 19 points late in the fourth quarter before rallying to force overtime. The Knicks shocked the Hornets, 126-124 as 10-point underdogs to pick up their only win in a 14-game span from December 3 through January 1. New York owns a respectable 4-2 ATS mark in its last six games away from the Garden, although the Knicks only picked up one victory, which came against the Lakers earlier this month.

The Hornets (23-25 SU, 25-23 ATS) squandered an 11-point lead heading into the fourth quarter in Friday’s 108-99 setback at Milwaukee. Although Charlotte covered as 11-point underdogs, the Bucks outscored the Hornets in the final 12 minutes, 32-12, while Kemba Walker shot 3-of-12 from the floor for 10 points. The Hornets improved to 5-1 ATS the last six games, as Charlotte won its past two home contests by double-digits over Phoenix and Sacramento.

Preview: Knicks at Hornets
Gracenote
Jan 28, 2019

The Charlotte Hornets hope to have All-Star guard Kemba Walker in the lineup Monday when they host the New York Knicks. Walker left Friday's loss at Milwaukee due to a neck strain after Bucks superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo landed on him, and the Hornets' leader did not practice Sunday.

"No practice so far. He's sore right now, but I think he's going to be OK," coach James Borrego told reporters of Walker on Sunday. "We'll know more tomorrow." The 108-99 loss to the Bucks capped a 1-2 road trip for Charlotte, which will be playing just its fourth home game of the month Monday. The Knicks are in a brutal spiral that has seen them lose nine in a row and 22 of 24, with one of the two wins in that span coming at Charlotte. Tim Hardaway Jr. scored 22 points while his fellow starters combined for just 16 in Sunday's 106-97 loss to Miami at home.

TV: 7 p.m. ET, MSG (New York), FS Southeast (Charlotte)

ABOUT THE KNICKS (10-38): Struggling second-year guard Frank Ntilikina made his second straight start Sunday but he was forced to leave the contest due to a groin injury after producing six points, four assists and zero turnovers in 15 minutes. "He had a huge impact on the first half," coach David Fizdale told the media of the 20-year-old Ntilikina. "Guarding the ball, getting people involved, being aggressive himself." Veteran center Enes Kanter, averaging a double-double, did not get off the bench for the third straight game as he remains out of Fizdale's game plan.

ABOUT THE HORNETS (23-25): Charlotte led by 12 points with under 10 minutes remaining at Milwaukee before going ice cold. "Thought we played really well last game, against Milwaukee," Borrego told the media. "We probably controlled that game for 40 to 42 minutes of it. And we just couldn't close it out." Walker finished with 10 points, his lowest total since Dec. 15, on 3-of-12 shooting while backcourt mate Jeremy Lamb was 5-of-18 from the floor.

BUZZER BEATERS

1. The Knicks won 126-124 in overtime at Charlotte last month while holding Walker and Lamb to a combined 13-of-41 from the floor.

2. New York rookie SG Allonzo Trier is averaging 16.8 points over his last five games while making 6-of-11 from 3-point range and 24-of-25 free throws.

3. Charlotte C Bismack Biyombo is averaging 10.3 rebounds and shooting 65 percent over his last four games.

Preview: Warriors at Pacers
Gracenote
Jan 27, 2019

The Indiana Pacers' first game without star guard Victor Oladipo didn't go so well, and the path forward isn't getting any easier. The Pacers will try to move to 1-1 since Oladipo's season-ending knee injury when they host the defending champion Golden State Warriors on Monday.

Indiana somehow regrouped after watching Oladipo's gruesome injury in Wednesday's 110-106 home win over the Toronto Raptors but could not find a way forward on Saturday at Memphis, when they suffered a 106-103 loss two days after learning he was diagnosed with a ruptured quad tendon. "We're just trying as a team to find ourselves without Victor Oladipo," Pacers forward Thaddeus Young told reporters. "That's one of the biggest things. Our offense was a little stagnant as opposed to having Victor out there. That's no excuse." The Warriors picked up their 10th consecutive win with a 115-111 triumph at Boston on Saturday but still believe they can be better. "It hasn't been perfect, and we know we can still be better," All-Star guard Steph Curry told reporters. "We've talked about putting a run together for a while now, and we're right in the middle of a really good one. You want to create good vibes, especially with the All-Star break coming up, and continue to build momentum the second half of the season."

TV: 7 p.m. ET, NBATV, NBCS Bay Area (Golden State), FS Indiana

ABOUT THE WARRIORS (35-14): Golden State is back on its familiar perch atop the Western Conference as its offense rounds into shape. The Warriors have five current or former All-Stars in the starting lineup with center DeMarcus Cousins joining the team and are quickly getting used to playing together. "Probably the best thing we're doing now is taking care of the ball," Curry told reporters. "Playmakers are making the right decisions more times than not, getting shots up -- that's obviously when the talent takes over. Our defense has been better. People are settling into rotations with DeMarcus, and we got an edge about us."

ABOUT THE PACERS (32-16): Indiana went 7-4 with Oladipo out of the lineup with a knee injury in November and December but is in a much different position with the star gone for the rest of the season and needs players like Tyreke Evans and Aaron Holiday to step up. Evans started in Oladipo's spot on Saturday and managed nine points in 24 minutes while Holiday came off the bench and scored seven points on 3-of-11 shooting. Small forward Bojan Bogdanovic led the team with 21 points against the Grizzlies but went 1-of-6 from 3-point range and fouled out.

BUZZER BEATERS

1. Curry went 6-of-12 from 3-point range on Saturday after slumping to 7-to-29 over the previous three contests.

2. Pacers C Myles Turner blocked multiple shots in each of the last six games and leads the NBA at an average of 2.79.

3. Indiana took both meetings last season by a total of 31 points.

Preview: Nets at Celtics
Gracenote
Jan 27, 2019

The Boston Celtics stared down the two-time defending champions on Saturday night and came up just short but learned something about their team. The Celtics will try to put those lessons into practice and earn a sixth win in seven games when they host the Brooklyn Nets on Monday.

Boston had three chances to tie or take the lead in the final minute but ended up falling 115-111 to the Golden State Warriors in a thriller. "I just think that we can play with anyone," Celtics center Al Horford told reporters. "It was nice to go out there, compete in that way. Give ourselves a chance to win there at the end. They’re the team to beat. Those guys really understand how to play. They know each other's strengths and things like that. They play really well so you have to play almost a flawless game to beat them." The Nets are making their way up near the top teams in the East with wins in six straight - a stretch that began with a 109-102 over the Celtics on Jan. 14. Brooklyn could take a step back after it was reported over the weekend that guard Spencer Dinwiddie would be undergoing surgery to repair a torn thumb ligament on Monday and is expected to miss three to six weeks.

TV: 7:30 p.m. ET, YES (Brooklyn), NBCS Boston

ABOUT THE NETS (27-23): Brooklyn was already short in the backcourt with Caris LeVert (foot) and Allen Crabbe (knee) out and will ask more of players like Shabazz Napier and Theo Pinson with Dinwiddie out of the lineup. Pinson, who is on a two-way contract, was called up on Friday and scored a season-high 19 points in a 109-99 win over the New York Knicks. "I shouldn’t say it was unexpected, but I didn't originally have him in the rotation," Nets coach Kenny Atkinson told reporters of Pinson. "I thought we were struggling and threw him in there, and we didn't want to take him out. ... It's a sign of a good program when you can plug guys in that haven't been playing or have been in the G League and they can produce at an NBA level. Theo is a great example of that and did a heck of a job."

ABOUT THE CELTICS (30-19): All-Star point guard Kyrie Irving did his best to pull Boston to a victory with 32 points and 10 assists on Saturday and joined Horford in saying that the team learned some lessons in the loss. "You know, just staying poised in certain situations, finishing plays, continuing to do the little things," Irving told reporters. "Obviously, going against the best you don't have a lot of room to make mistakes. Just cleaning some of that stuff up but we played pretty well. Had a few chances at the end but just didn’t go our way." Saturday marked Irving's fourth double-double in five games.

BUZZER BEATERS

1. Nets PF Ed Davis grabbed 16 rebounds in two of the last three games.

2. Celtics SF Gordon Hayward was held to two points on 0-of-5 shooting in 22 minutes on Saturday.

3. Brooklyn snapped a 10-game losing streak in the series with the win on Jan. 14.

Preview: Nuggets at Grizzlies
Gracenote
Jan 27, 2019

The Memphis Grizzlies picked on the depleted Indiana Pacers to snap an eight-game slide on Saturday and are playing for pride. The Grizzlies will try to post consecutive wins for the first time since Christmas when they host the Denver Nuggets on Monday.

Memphis' victory on Saturday improved the team to 4-19 over its last 23 games and came on the heels of news that the team is shopping veterans Marc Gasol and Mike Conley. "We needed it bad," Gasol told reporters after the 106-103 victory. "We've needed it for a while. It's not like we had that feeling, but we kind of figured out how to work together on the defensive end and that took away a lot of pressure for the offense and throughout the game." The Grizzlies will need to work together again to try to find a way to stop Nuggets center Nikola Jokic, who collected 32 points, 18 rebounds and 10 assists on Saturday to record his seventh triple-double of the season in a 126-110 triumph over the Philadelphia 76ers. "He's proven once again why he’s an All-NBA, all-star type player and thank goodness he's wearing a Nuggets uniform," Denver coach Michael Malone told reporters of Jokic.

TV: 8 p.m. ET, Altitude (Denver), FS Southeast (Memphis)

ABOUT THE NUGGETS (33-15): Jokic returned to the lineup Saturday after sitting out a 132-95 win over the Phoenix Suns the previous night while serving a one-game suspension for leaving the bench area during an altercation at Utah on Wednesday. "Obviously, it was an unfortunate situation, but it was just one game," Malone told reporters. "He came back and did what we expect Nikola to do. He was a huge part of our attack, getting him the ball and he made the right play time and time again, scoring and finding a teammate." Jokic recorded at least a double-double in 12 of his 13 games this month.

ABOUT THE GRIZZLIES (20-30): Memphis dropped eight in a row before breaking through against the Pacers. "It's more pride than anything," Grizzlies coach J.B. Bickerstaff told reporters. "It's being proud of those guys in the locker room. That's the only thing. To watch them compete the way they did for four quarters, I couldn't be more proud of them. With the spirit that they played with and the competitive edge that they played with, I think that's the best word." Conley and Gasol combined for 40 points, 15 assists and 11 rebounds in the win and have largely ignored any suggestion they might be traded.

BUZZER BEATERS

1. Grizzlies PF JaMychal Green (knee pain) sat out the second half Saturday and is day-to-day.

2. Nuggets SG Gary Harris is 3-of-14 from 3-point range over the last four games.

3. The teams split the first two meetings this season, with Memphis earning an 89-87 home win on Nov. 7.
