Fans of pitching duels could be in for a treat on Tuesday, when the top two teams in the National League Central go head-to-head at Miller Park. The Milwaukee Brewers will host the Chicago Cuns in the second of a four-game series.
Chicago Cubs at Milwaukee Brewers – 8:05 PM ET
After a poor outing in Houston, Carlos Zambrano (11-4, 2.96) rebounded with a strong performance in a 6-3 win at home over Florida, allowing a pair of runs on six hits over seven innings, striking out six without a single walk. Not giving up a walk is impressive when you consider that Zambrano walked six Astros in his previous start, and the fiery 27-year-old righthander will have to be on the top of his game against the Brewers. Zambrano has yet to earn a decision in two starts against the Brewers this season, but he does have a microscopic ERA of 0.69.
Ben Sheets (10-3, 2.87) has posted two consecutive no-decisions since starting in the All-Star game, and he was perhaps unfortunate to not earn a victory in a 4-3 win at St. Louis, as he allowed three runs (two earned) on four hits over seven innings. Sheets also struck out four and walked two against the Cardinals, and he ranks in the top ten in six major statistical categories, including first in complete games with three. The 30-year-old righthander has an 1-0 record in two starts against the Cubs this season, posting an ERA of 2.38.
Ahead of Monday's series opener, the Brewers had taken four of six meetings with the Cubs in 2008, all of which have come at Wrigley Field. Now it is the Brewers' turn to protect their homefield, but they will have their hands full with Zambrano, who has been on cusp of beating Milwaukee in both of his starts. Meanwhile, Sheets will look to remain consistent at home, where he is 4-2 in seven starts with an ERA of 2.96.
