Cubs, Brewers look to carry Central flag against Phillies, Dodgers

The National League Central placed a pair of teams in the postseason this year, including the league’s top team in the Chicago Cubs. There are definitely some good MLB playoff odds available for the four teams, as the Cubs will battle the West champion Los Angeles Dodgers, while the Milwaukee Brewers meet the East-winning Philadelphia Phillies.

Chicago Cubs (-220) vs. Los Angeles Dodgers (+190)

The Cubs will host the first two games of this series at Wrigley Field on Wednesday, where they won an NL-best 55 home games. The Cubs were third in the National League with a 3.87 ERA, and they were also first in runs scored, which is always a good formula for solid World Series odds. The health of starters Carlos Zambrano and Rich Harden will definitely be watched by those in the online sportsbook community. The Dodgers were tops in the league for team ERA at 3.68, but they have scored the fewest runs of all four playoff teams. These two have met in just one series this season, when the Cubs took two of three in Los Angeles. Chicago’s combination of pitching and hitting is a tough task to overcome, but the Dodgers are young and fearless. The Cubs vs. Dodgers odds give the early nod to Chicago at -220.

Philadelphia Phillies (-175) vs. Milwaukee Brewers (+150)

The Phillies captured their second straight East crown, and like Chicago, they were a very balanced squad. Philadelphia were third in the league in runs scored, with Ryan Howard a leading candidate for his second MVP award (and third straight for a Phillie). They are also fourth in ERA, which could make them darlings in the online sportsbook scene. Milwaukee snuck into the postseason on the final day of the regular season, but they are still listed at +150 for these Brewers vs. Phillies odds, which makes them an interesting underdog pick. CC Sabathia and Ben Sheets led the Brewers to the second-lowest ERA in the league, but Sheets is likely to miss the Brewers vs. Phillies matchup with elbow problems. Ryan Braun is looking to continue his monster season, but the young slugger will need some help from Prince Fielder. Philadelphia won five of six meetings with Milwaukee this season.
