The Toronto Blue Jays have fired manager John Gibbons and have hired former Blue Jay manager Cito Gaston to take over.

Gaston led the Jays to World Series victories in 1992 and 1993 but this year Toronto is 35-39 and 10.5 games behind the Red Sox.

Gibbons finishes his Blue Jays managerial career with a 305-305 record since 2004.

Gibbons also becomes the third manager fired in the past week. John McLaren was fired by the Seattle Mariners along with general manager Bill Bavasi. Jim Riggleman was hired to take over while in New York, the Mets fired the well respected Willie Randolph and gave Jerry Manuel the interim tag.
