MLB All-Star Rosters Announced

The rosters for the 2008 all-star teams have been announced for the July 15th game at Yankee Stadium when the American League looks to continue their recent dominance over the National League. The AL all-stars are 10-0-1 over the last 11 games with the winning league again to have home field advantage in the World Series.

The Chicago Cubs and Boston Red Sox led all teams with seven players selected. The Texas Rangers were next with for Rangers selected.

In the American League, Joe Mauer from Minnesota will start at catcher with Boston's Kevin Yokilis and Dustin Pedroia getting the start at first and second base. The other side of the diamond will feature two New York Yankees, Derek Jeter and Alex Rodriguez. The outfield starters are Manny Ramirez (Boston), Josh Hamilton (Texas) and Ichiro Suzuki (Seattle). David Ortiz was voted in but Milton Bradley was selected to take his place because of injury as the American League designated hitter.

The AL reserves are Dioner Navarro (C-Tampa), Jason Varitek (C-Boston), Justin Morneau (1B-Minnesota), Ian Kinsler (2B-Texas), Michael Young (SS-Texas), Joe Crede (3B-Chicago), Carlos Guillen (3B-Detroit), J.D. Drew (OF-Boston), Carlos Quentin (OF-Chicago), Grady Sizemore (OF-Cleveland) and Milton Bradley (DH-Texas).

Cliff Lee will start for the AL with the following pitchers joining him in New York. Justin Duchscherer (Oakland), Roy Halladay (Toronto), Scott Kazmir (Tampa), Joe Nathan (Minnesota), Jonathan Papelbon (Boston), Mariano Rivera (New York), Francisco Rivera (LAA), Ervin Santana (LAA), Joe Saunders (LAA). George Sherrill (Baltimore) and Joakim Soria (Kansas City).

The last AL roster spot will be decided by an internet vote with Jermaine Dye, Jose Guillen, Jason Giambi and Brian Roberts joining the favorite Evan Longoria.

In the National League, Geovany Soto from Chicago will start behind the plate with Lance Berkman (Houston) starting at first base. The Phillies young superstar Chase Utley gets the nod at second base with two more NL East players (Hanley Ramirez (Fl), Chipper Jones (Atl)) representing the other side of the infield. Two-thirds of the Cubs outfield were selected as starters in Alfonso Soriano and Kosuke Fukodome while Milwaukee's Ryan Braun gets the other spot.

The NL reserves are Russell Martin (LAD), Brian McCann (Atlanta), Adrian Gonzalez (San Diego), Albert Pujols (St. Louis), Dan Uggla (Florida), Aramis Ramirez (Chicago), Cristian Guzman (Washington), Miguel Tejada (Houston), Matt Holliday (Colorado), Ryan Ludwick (St. Louis) and Nate McLouth (Pittsburgh).

Brandon Webb is expected to start for the NL with the rest of these pitchers joining the National League All-stars;

Aaron Cook (Colorado), Ryan Dempster (Chicago), Dan Haren (Arizona), Brad Lidge (Houston), Tim Lincecum (San Francisco), Ben Sheets (Milwaukee), Edinson Volquez (Cincinnati), Billy Wagner (New York), Brian Wilson (San Francisco), Kerry Wood (Chicago), Carlos Zambrano (Chicago).

The internet poll will pick one more player from the National League of these players; Pat Burrell, Corey Hart, Carlos Lee, Aaron Roward and David Wright.

One of the bigger all-star snubs was Daisuke Matsuzaka who was 9-1 with a 3.12 ERA.
