Searching for a NFL Mock Draft Consensus
Now that the Miami Dolphins have signed offensive tackle Jake Long as the No. 1 overall pick, the mock draft guru’s can start focusing on the St. Louis Rams and the rest of the day one NFL draft.
Mock drafts have become like sports touts, it’s wild prediction business and everyone thinks they will be right.
It’s not just Mel Kiper anymore, every media outlet has a mock draft expert and they all act as if they have inside information and know which players will be selected and when.
It’s easy to jump on the bandwagon and boast that Chris Long will be the first overall pick, or maybe Matt Ryan, Vernon Gholston or Glenn Dorsey.
Of course we know NFL executives play games when it comes to the draft. Some just blow smoke, some talk up players they have no interest in. You hear a lot of rumors, the only thing you can be sure of is that NFL teams do not want you to know who they have on the top of their draft board. With this in mind, we take a look around the internet at several NFL mock drafts and see if we can get a consensus of at least the top 5 picks.
Mel Kiper of ESPN and the original NFL draft guru has Chris Long going to St. Louis, followed by Glenn Dorsey to Atlanta, Darren McFadden to Oakland and Branden Albert to Kansas City. Kiper has Matt Ryan slipping to No. 8 and the Baltimore Ravens.
Todd McShay of ESPN Insider and Scouts Inc, has the Rams selecting Glenn Dorsey, followed by Matt Ryan to Atlanta, Darren McFadden to Oakland and Chris Long slipping to Kansas City at No. 5.
Clark Judge of CBSsports has the Rams selecting Chris Long, Matt Ryan to Atlanta at No. 3, McFadden to Oakland and Glenn Dorsey to the Chiefs at #5
Pete Prisco of CBSsports likes the Rams to take Glenn Dorsey followed by Matt Ryan to Atlanta, McFadden to Oakland and Chris Long to Kansas City.
Rob Rang of The Sports Xchange has Long to the Rams, Dorsey to the Falcons, Vernon Gholston to the Raiders and Ryan Clady to Kansas City.
Pro Football Weekly has Long to Rams, Dorsey to the Falcons, Gholston to Oakland and Derrick Harvey to Kansas City. PFW also likes McFadden to slip to the Jets at No. 6 and Ryan to Baltimore at No. 8.
Rivals.com has the Rams selecting Dorsey, followed by Ryan to Atlanta, McFadden to Oakland and Chris Long to Kansas City.
WalterFootball.com has Chris Long to the Rams, Dorsey to the Falcons, McFadden to Oakland and Sedrick Ellis to Kansas City.
Michael Abromowitz of The Football Expert has Long to the Rams, Dorsey to Falcons, Gholston to Falcons and a surprise of Matt Ryan to the Chiefs.
James Alder of About.com has Chris Long to the Rams, Matt Ryan to Atlanta, Vernon Gholston to Oakland and Glenn Dorsey to Kansas City.
DraftKing has Long to the Rams, Dorsey to the Falcons, McFadden to the Raiders and Gholston to the Chiefs. The big surprise at #6 is the Jets taking Leodis McKelvin.
The following folks from USA today are split as well. Jarrett Bell has the Rams taking Dorsey, Falcons taking Ryan, Raiders taking Gholston and Chiefs taking Long.
Jim Corbett has the Rams taking Long, Falcons taking Dorsey, Raiders taking McFadden and Chiefs taking Branden Albert.
Nate Davis has Long, Dorsey, Gholston and the Chiefs taking Ryan Clady at #5.
Derek Harper has Long, Dorsey, Gholston and the Chiefs taking Matt Ryan.
Sean Leahy has Long, Dorsey, Gholston and Ryan
Rob Rang has Long, Dorsey, Gholston and Clady.
Larry Weisman has Long, Dorsey, Gholston and Albert
Scott Zucker has Long, Dorsey, McFadden and Clady.
So when it's all said and done, NFL mock drafts are not a perfect science. Experts disagree while searching for the perfect mock draft that could put the NFL guru on the map as the next Mel Kiper.
