2008 NFL Survivor Suicide Pool

CappersMall has released information about everyone's favorite contest, NFL Survivor or sometimes known to bettors as a Suicide Pool or Last Man Standing Contest. The NFL Survivor contest is one of the CappersMall favorites and it is sponsored by BetJamaica with a cool cash prize of $1500.

Unlike other handicapping contests, where bettors pick against the spread, this contest you are just picking an NFL team that will win straight-up. In 2007, the New England Patriots won every game in the regular season. The great thing that makes this contest interesting is you can't use the same team twice for the duration of the contest. So although New England won every week, you have to pick the "right" week to pick them.

Each weekend in the appropriate forum section, members will post their one pick for the week before the required deadline of 1:00 PM on Sunday's. If you lose or fail to make a pick for the week, you are automatically disqualified. The last member standing will win $1500.

The contest will begin the first week of the NFL regular season. It is interesting to follow how some people use strategy in this contest. Some gamblers will just try and find the biggest pointspread or the the most likely easiest win, while others will plan ahead and pick games or teams that they may not get another decent opportunity to play. In the last two years of this contest, the winner was not declared until after Week 13 of the NFL regular season so if history repeats, you'll need to be smart about your picks.

We'll take a quick look at some of the most likely popular survivor picks during the opening week.

In week one, the New England Patriots are two touchdown favorites over the Chiefs. Other possible popular picks could be the Pittsburgh Steelers who open up at home vs. Houston, San Diego who opens up at home against the Carolina Panthers and the Indianapolis Colts who open up on Sunday Night Football against the Chicago Bears. Players who do not fear road teams could consider the New York Jets over Miami, Dallas in Cleveland or possibly Denver in Oakland.
