betED.com has early odds available for the men's champion at next month's Australian Open, the first of the world's four Grand Slam tennis tournaments.

The 2009 Australian Open, scheduled for Jan. 19 to Feb. 1 at Melbourne Park, will feature the top 100 male and female tennis players in the world.

Roger Federer is the favorite to win the men's singles championship match - slated for Feb. 1 - at +175 odds at betED.com.

Rafael Nadal is +250, Andy Murray is +300, and Novak Djokovic at +400. Jo-Wilfried Tsonga rounds out the top five at +1500.

The women's singles final is held on Jan. 31 and betED.com will have odds available as the event draws nearer.

Federer lost to Djokovic in straight sets at the semi-final of the 2008 Australian Open. Djokovic went on to defeat France's Tsonga and claimed his first grand slam title, also becoming the first player from Serbia to win the title.

Maria Sharapova overcame a season riddled with injury to win the 2008 Australian Open women's championship in a 7-5, 6-3 defeat against former world number one Ana Ivanovic.

Total prize money for the 2009 Australian Open will be AUS $20 million.

Meanwhile, American tennis star Lindsay Davenport said Thursday she will compete in the 2009 Australian Open. The 2000 Australian Open women's champion had reportedly been contemplating retirement but Australian Open organizers announced the 32-year-old would play in next month's tournament.

Davenport lost to eventual champion Maria Sharapova in the second round of the 2008 Open, but hasn't played since this year's US Open in August.
