Rafael Nadal goes for his second straight Wimbledon title, and third overall, when he meets Novak Djokovic in the men’s final on Sunday morning EST. The betting odds have Nadal as a -165 favorite at Bodog.eu.
Nadal was the 2/1 co-favorite along with Roger Federer before the tourney began. Djokovic was third at 11/4.
Nadal advanced to the final on Friday courtesy of a win over Andy Murray. He actually lost the first set (5-7), but stormed back to win the next three (6-2, 6-2, 6-4).
Fans all over Great Britain were devastated by the loss as Murray was trying to become the first citizen to win since 1936, but it wasn’t meant to me. Nadal has consistently proven himself to be the better player, beating Murray in the semis for the second year in a row.
Nadal injured his foot in the fourth round of this tourney, but that doesn’t appear to be a factor heading into Sunday. He won Wimbledon in 2008 in a classic over Federer. He then sat out in 2009 because of a knee injury, but was back to his winning ways againlast year, beating Tomas Berdych in straight sets in the final.
The Spaniard Nadalhas 10 Grand Slam titles overall, winning four of the last five. It’s not completely out of the question that he could catch Federer (a record 16) at only age 25.
Djokovicwon the Australian Open this year for his second Grand Slam win. He also won the Australian Open in 2008. This is his first Wimbledon final.
Djokovic has secured the world’s No. 1 ranking and advanced by beating Jo-Wilfried Tsonga 7-6, 6-2, 6-7, 6-3 in a very exciting match.Tsonga beat Federer in the quarterfinals.
The Serbia native is an awe-inspiring 47-1 this year and one more win Sunday would arguably be the biggest of his career.
