Boxing betting odds at Bodog Sportsbook are favoring Miguel Cotto very heavily in his fight with Josh Clottey for Cotto's WBO welterweight crown this Saturday at Madison Square Garden, and for good reason: Cotto will have the crowd behind him due to the Puerto Rican Parade that takes place the next day in New York City.
Boxing Odds - Saturday, June 13, 8:00 PM ET
Clottey (35-2-0-1) is no slouch, as he held his own with Antonio Margarito in 2006, and he won a clear-cut decision over Zab Judah to win the IBF welterweight title last August. Clottey is a patient fighter with good stamina, and he has the discipline to stay away from mistakes. However, he hasn't fought since the Judah win, and there may be some rust when he steps into the ring.
Cotto (33-1) bounced back from his controversial loss to Margarito, who may have put illegal plaster on his hands to defeat Cotto, who fired his trainer/uncle after his win over Michael Jennings in February. Cotto's corner threw in the towel to give Cotto his first professional loss, but he recovered to put in a great performance against Jennings. Cotto will be aiming to go 5-0 at Madison Square Garden.
Cotto is the boxing betting favorite at -360 to retain his title, and it's no surprise that he is fighting in and around the Puerto Rican Parade, as the PR native has done it three times, and would have last year if not for the Margarito fight. He'll have plenty of support backing him up, and he'll look to take advantage of Clottey's rusty early with his knockout power. Meanwhile, Clottey can pull off an amazing upset with a win on Saturday, but he'll need to fight the fight of his life to overcome the boxing odds.
