A little cocky with his sox.

Ruger has been a favorite of mine forever. I bought a .44 carbine in 1969. It is a short range only deer rifle. I was going to give it to a 16-year-old Nephew so I sent away for a new owner's manual. Wow. About 32 pages with both red and black ink.

I later found the original manual which was one 8.5" X 17" sheet of paper folded into quarters.

Wow. So angry you cannot remember how to spell human.

Its MLB season so three strikes and you're out. I will answer what should be on the political side.

Guns are to protect the people from an oppressive Government.
"Before a standing army can rule, the people must be disarmed, as they are in almost every country in Europe. The supreme power in America cannot enforce unjust laws by the sword; because the whole body of the people are armed, and constitute a force superior to any band of regular troops."
An Examination of the Leading Principles of the Federal Constitution, October 10, 1787
Noah Webster

"To disarm the people is the most effectual way to enslave them."
-
George Mason

The NRA is the oldest civil rights organization in the USA. The disarmed British wanted any usable revolver and binoculars to defend themselves. There are a handful of these sets with good provenance that are collectively worth millions.

This advertisement was published in American Rifleman, November 1940.

In 1940, 79 years ago, the British stood alone against Hitler’s war machine. From May 27 through June 4, the British evacuated more than 300,000 troops from France in the face of the advancing German Blitzkreig. It was called the “Miracle of Dunkirk," but while the soliders were able to fight another day, they left much of the equipment—especially arms—on the beach. The American Committee for the Defense of British Homes ran this notice in the November 1940 American Rifleman.

A good air rifle is great for pest control.

Since they are not firearms, they can have a noise suppressor on them or you can make one. Plenty on youtube. I had a great mechanic in Mercer who asked me what to do about the cats that were getting into his storage barn and ripping up boats. His 22 over penetrated the cats and he put a hole in the steel roof. I loaned him an old .177 BB gun that he worked great. I have one similar to this one. With the 7 grain pellets they come out supersonic with a loud crack but with the 10-grain pellets, it is quite quiet.

I made it a going away gift and got a new one.

James Dover Grant is a British citizen who writes under the pen name Lee Child. Do not believe anything you read about firearms in a Jack Reacher book.

In One Shot, made into the first movie, Child has the sniper firing from across a city reflection pool of about 35 yards away. Someone in the movie knew that was a ridiculously close range and made the sniper shoot across a river.

In another book, the antagonist lights a fire under a box of 45 ammo and "there were bullet holes everywhere." Bullets make a pop went put over a fire but with no steel chamber, the biggest damage is the 5-grain primer may fly out at high speed while the 230-grain bullet stays still. Newton's Law.

How about an air pistol? What do you recommend?
I hate crows and my neighborhood is full of them.
Just would prefer pistol to the rifle.
Thanks in advance AK.

I had a CO2 pistol years ago. It was ok for making holes in paper targets but not much more. If cost is no problem, there are rifles and pistols that are charged by a 3000 psi SCUBA tank. Remember the 6-inch barrel 22 pistol had 240% more energy than the 1.625? Same for air pistol/rifle. I know my air rifle with a single cock of breaking the barrel to charge a piston was a deadly and humanely killer of squirrels. I used to eat the squirrels but it is a pain in the butt. Never tried eating crows.

I am unsure if pistols would have the range. Squirrels at 20 feet were easy with the rifle but a crow 80 feet up in a tree? It boils down to feet per second (fps). Also, past ten meters pellets start to lose their stabilization. Look it up online.

Speaking of moose, a big caliber rifle is the humane way to go. This is the .338 Winchester Mag.
It fires a big long bullet. This style is a pointed soft point, boattail style. The longer and more streamlined a bullet give it a better bullet coefficient. The tip is plastic to not get damaged in the magazine when the rifle recoils.
In ballistics, the ballistic coefficient (BC) of a bullet is a measure of its ability to overcome air resistance in flight. A high BC means the object will slow down less. It will have more of its speed left when it reaches the target. BC depends on mass, diameter, and drag coefficient.

I like the aesthetics and american craftsmanship that go into a 1911

I even own a nighthawk custom

but if you can only get one handgun, you have to go with a a gloc for reliability alone

and in a 9mm format, not 45acp. its enough for man stopping and a much cheaper round

The speed of sound is around 1125 depending on who you believe. The 147 gr. @ 975 fps bullet is always subsonic while the 115 @ 1155 fps is supersonic.

The 9x19mm round itself is the 9mm Luger round. It’s also 9mm Parabellum AND 9mm NATO. It’s all the same bullet and cartridge. Another advantage of 9mm is re-arming yourself with the fallen guy's ammo.

$349.95 shipped to a FFL holder near you.
So yes, you can order a pistol online but it must be shipped to a gun store and an ATF Form 4473 filled out. If three pistol owners meet, one will always say his Smith is best.

It's not like I said "some people did something"

Quote:
Rep. Ilhan Omar (D*–Minn.) describing the 9/11 terrorist attacks as an incident in which "some people did something"
While I'm here we can describe most pistols as recoil or blowback operated. A few giants like the Desert Eagle are gas-operated. A blowback is just what it sounds. There is no lockup of the slide to the barrel. The slide stays in place by its mass and a spring. It is a dirty system that requires cleaning after use more often.
The blowback principle may be considered a simplified form of a gas operation since the cartridge case behaves like a piston driven by the powder gases. Other operating principles for self-loading firearms include gas operation and recoil operation.

I was never taught how to clear my ears after a rapid descent and I was kind of deaf on every disembarkation from a helo. The Tour of Duty TV series was in stereo. I finally figured out those whizzing sounds I was hearing were bullets passing near me. I stopped watching the series.

I read the book I get a mention in 1995. It kind of freaked me out. It triggered PTSD in one of the men. I never reread it.

I tried another helo book but I quit it. Maybe more another day.

Care to share?

I currently have an entry-level Remington R51. They have changed since I got mine in 2014. It has the classic look of blued steel and carved wood.

It serves its purpose but my days of qualifying Expert are behind me. An old saying; If you're caught in a gunfight, use your pistol. If you are going to a gunfight, use your rifle."

My go-to Mini 30.

I do not use Facebook much. I hate the idea of today's software figuring out where you own your house, lake house, children. The whole idea can turned into a guide to:

#1 Who is rich
#2 Who has Grandchildren worth kidnapping and ransoming.
