Amazing movie, very interesting twist at the end.

You were right.

Outstanding movie and Plummer could have won an award for his performance. Have no idea why I never heard of this movie before.

Wife and I enjoyed it and yeah bigtime plot turn at the end.

Thanks.

Wrong Turn (2021) 5/10

Oy Vey, terrible..5 is being generous but it kept my attention enough to finish it. Completely different story than the original wrong turn movies, they should have just named it something different.

GREENLAND
When a rain of comets threatens to wipe out civilization, John (Gerard Butler) and his wife Allison (Morena Baccarin) do everything in their power to reach the US nuclear bunkers on Greenland. Using the example of a pulling together family

WANDER

2/10
Saw it had Tommy Lee Jones and thought it couldn’t be all that bad and boy was I wrong. Paranoid conspiracy private detective goes to a town to investigate a murder but finds out the whole town of Wander is fucked up. Human experimentation and deadly explosive implants. The detective self narrates his thoughts throughout the movie and the movie itself goes from starting out like it could be good but goes downhill fast because of the paranoid medicated detective mixes his own delusions with his conspiracy findings and on top of that you have the CIA fucking with his mind as well. Hard to follow movie and just not good.

2 out of 10 and that’s just because maybe the first 10 to 15 minutes was ok.

Body Brokers 6.5/10

Interesting movie about “recovery centers” and how the whole addiction recovery industry is as crooked as can be. Worth a watch.

In the mood for a good Cowboy flick? 2008's Appaloosa I'd give it a good 8.5/10. Shades of Lonesome Dove and Ed Harris revises or invents his Westworld character. Get the popcorn and check it out. Kind of a slow built at first but gets rolling at a good pace.

Bullet Head (5/10)

IMDb says 5.4/10

A group of thieves (think low-rent Reservoir Dogs) hide out in an abandoned warehouse complex, waiting for their boss to pick them and their stolen money up. Their warehouse turns out to be the home of a much more serious criminal organization and their daily underground dog-fighting events. So, these guys are trying to hide out while avoiding the big bad boss, which isn't a huge deal since he shoots like a stormtrooper. There's also a killer dog on the loose, a big beautiful brindle Canary Mastiff named De Niro.

One of those movies basically shot in one location, but you expect them to keep your attention with drama, action, and a good pace. Not in this case. It could have been so much better.

A good cast (Malkovich, Brody, Banderas, and Rory Culkin) and a cool location, gritty and dirty with a lot of possiblities. The action was much more sporadic than expected, and there was a lot of down time with character dialogue that just seemed out of place. We're supposed to believe that these low-life career criminals sit around confiding in each other about their feelings, personal relationships, meaningful life experiences, etc. It never seems genuine.

The biggest problem I had with it was the incredible number of times these guys did something stupid or out-of-character for the type of people they were portraying. There were so many times, in emergency life-or-death situations, where they hesitated to move in situations where NO ONE would hesitate. Big dog charging at you? Guy shooting at you? No worries, take your time getting away, and don't bother to close too many doors behind you.

They try a little harder to give Adrian Brody a lot of dialogue about his relationship, and it's pretty obvious they want us to root for him a little. But these are all "bad guys," right? How are we supposed to root for any of them. Honestly, I was rooting for the dog.

I was able to predict the entire sequence of events in the final act, and would have been happy if I was wrong. Somebody please fix this script and get a better director to remake it.

If you're looking to be mildly frustrated for about 90 minutes, check this one out.

I Care a Lot (6/10)

IMDb says 6.2/10

Another one that could have been so much better. Also another one where it's really hard to find someone to root for.

The lead character Marla Grayson is a court-appointed guardian for the elderly, and she's just the worst person, just running a scam and sucking up all these people's money with no regard for anyone but herself. She has a doctor who takes kickbacks to defraud the court about the mental capacity of the elderly. The guy who manages the old folks home also takes kickbacks to provide the rooms and adjust medications to keep the victims mostly incapacitated. If you saw the movie Unsane, you'll recognize the same theme: once you're declared insane or incompetent, any resistance you put up just makes the diagnosis look justified. Screaming about how you're not crazy doesn't help you seem not crazy.

There's a completely incompetent judge involved with each case, and the hospital staff is equally oblivious and incompetent. How do they not notice some of these people shouldn't be there? Is there no one with reasonable medical training or experience? Are they all on the take? It's as if the movie wants to expedite your loss of faith in all humanity. All you can think is, "This absolutely has to be happening somewhere in real life."

Grayson and her people target a perfectly fine old lady to scam, but guess what, they've picked on the wrong person this time. Turns out, old lady has a secret son in the Russian mob, and they immediately start threatening, torturing, and killing to try to facilitate the mother's release.

Peter Dinklage plays the gangster son, and for me, he's such a good actor, he was easily the best part of the move. Of course he's a bad guy here, but everyone's a bad guy here. I will say hated everyone else more than him, so I guess I was rooting for him by default.

Overall, well-acted, with a few cool scenes, but very depressing (almost enraging) at times. The final act was disappointing and a little ridiculous, IMO.

Another thing that just occurred to me about I Care a Lot: seemed like every 20 minutes they had to shoehorn in some feminist nonsense about men. Anyone else who saw it annoyed by this?

Every time Marla Grayson ran up against any resistance to her evil plans, she had to say something along the lines of, "Men don't want women to do this. Men don't think women can do that. They're only doing this because I'm a woman." YOU'RE IMAGINING THINGS!! No once cares that you're a woman! Not everything works out for men all the time, either!

The Mauritanian 7/10

Very well done movie. True story about a guy who was accused of being one of the masterminds of 9/11 and the 15 or so years he spent in GITMO before being cleared. Very well acted all around, Jodie Foster has gotten very old.

While neither of you guys posted a spoiler.... seems to me that the twist in the end leads to ONE likely outcome.

I'll have to watch it now to see if I'm correct... hoping I'm wrong; that would be a twist.

Not meant to be critical... just saying the set up would seem to end w/one predictable "Oh shit!" outcome.

The outcome was not likely at all in my opinion.

I had expected something predictable and it did not happen...not even close...hope you enjoy the movie as I said Plummer was outstanding.

Crisis 5/10

Movie about the opioid crisis that hits it from diff angles(cops/drug companies/gangsters etc). Boring and messy. It’s hard to watch an Armie Hammer movie knowing what a psychopath he is in real life.

Pretty new movie that will keep you guessing. You know twists are coming but you are not quite sure what they will be. Worth watching
