After a six-game winning streak, the Minnesota Wild had two humbling losses to the Vegas Golden Knights to bring them back to the middle of the West Division. They now will hope to shake off the 2 defeats as they will travel to Arizona to face the Coyotes who just came off a strong win against the Kings on the road. Both teams have been pleasant surprises this season and this should be an entertaining game between two promising teams.

Wild have found young scorers this season
The Wild have impressed this season, winning 12 of the first 20 games to give them the 3rd best record in the West Division. This season, the Wild have been led by their young core of goal scorers. 24-year-old Joel Eriksson EK has 8 goals this season while 23-year-old Kirill Kaprizov has 6 goals and 11 assists this season to put him in the discussion for the Calder Trophy (rookie of the year).

While the offense is led by the young core, the defense is led by a veteran bunch. 31-year-old Ian Cole and 27-year-old Jonas Brodin have combined for 2.4 defensive point shares and 62 blocked shots while the pairing of Carson Soucy and Matt Dumba have combined for 2.2 defensive point shares and 46 blocked shots. In addition, the goaltending duo of Kaapo Kahkonen and Cam Talbot has been a pleasant surprise as the duo is only allowing 2.5 goals per game.

Coyotes are finding their depth on offense
The Arizona Coyotes have been in the middle of the pack this season in the West Division but they have been led by a deep-scoring offense. Five of their forwards have 7 goals or more with Christain Dvorak leading the way with 9 goals. The Coyotes are also finding offense from their 22-year-old defenseman Jakob Chychrun, who has 5 goals on the season.

Speaking of Jakob Chychrun, he is part of an improving defense that has two strong pairings. Chychrun and Alex Goligoski have combined for 2 defensive point shares and 79 blocked shots while Jordan Oesterle and Niklas Hjalmarsson have combined for 2.2 defensive point shares and 68 blocked shots. In addition, Darcy Kuemper has led the way as the starting goaltender only allowing 2.4 goals per game.

The Colorado Avalanche won their recent game against the San Jose Sharks but it came at a cost. Their star player, arguably one of the best in the NHL, Nathan MacKinnon, got hit hard and his status is uncertain for the next game. The Ducks will hope to take advantage if MacKinnon is absent from the game as they need a win more badly than ever before (the last game the Ducks won was February 11th).

Ducks losing streak hits 8 games
After losing back-to-back games against the Blues, the Ducks losing streak is now 8 games and they have looked like one of the worst teams in the NHL in the process. The offense has been particularly terrible this season and during the slump as the Ducks are only scoring 2 goals per game and aside from Max Comtois, nobody has more than 6 goals.
While the offense has been the downfall, the defense has done its best to keep the team in games, allowing only 2.9 goals per game. The Ducks have two strong pairs on the defensive side with Jani Hakanpaa and Cam Fowler leading the top pairing while Hampus Lindholm and Kevin Shattenkirk lead the second pairing. Both duos combine for more than 2 defensive point shares and 45 blocked shots. In addition, starting goaltender John Gibson has done a respectable job in the net as he has only allowed 2.7 goals per game this season and has a save percentage greater than .900.

Avalanche hope to continue to find offense
If Nathan MacKinnon can't play in the game against the Ducks, the Avalanche are going to have to replace their top scorer and one of the game's best players. MacKinnon leads the offense's top line and has 17 assists on the season on a top line with Mikko Rantanen and Gabriel Landeskog, who have scored 16 goals combined this season. The offense still has enough scorers to still put together a potent offense with Nazem Kadri, Joonas Donskoi, and Brandon Saad all scoring 6 goals this season as part of an offense that is scoring 3 goals per game.

The Avalanche have been able to play great on the defensive end as well despite missing Cale Makar for a few games this season. Cale Makar is one of the best young defensemen in the NHL and he and Samuel Girard make a strong pair of 22-year-old defensemen who've combined for 3 defensive point shares this season. Along with the young pairing, the Avalanche are finding production from their offseason acquisition Devon Toews who has 35 blocked shots this season. In addition, the starting goaltender Philipp Grubauer is having a career year as he is only allowing only 2 goals per game.

The St. Louis Blues will look to pick up their fourth consecutive victory when they visit the Los Angeles Kings on Friday night in West Division action. St Louis is currently in second place at 13-8-2 after a 3-2 road win over the Anaheim Ducks on Wednesday night, cashing in as a -169 favorite on the moneyline. Los Angeles is back in sixth place at 9-8-4 after dropping a 3-2 game to the Arizona Coyotes as a slight -101 home underdog on Wednesday.

This is the fifth meeting of the season between the two games, with Los Angeles winning three of the first four in regulation as an underdog of +130 or more. Los Angeles won the last matchup 2-1 back on February 24 in St. Louis.

St. Louis locks down the Ducks
After a miserable ending to February where they earned just two points in a span of Span games, the Blues are back on track after sweeping a two-game set in Anaheim. All three St. Louis goals came on the power play on Wednesday, with Oskar Sundqvist, Brayden Schenn and Zach Sanford all finding the back of the net, and the Blues' defense was in command as Anaheim only scored once before Rickard Rakell's goal with nine seconds left.

Torey Krug dished out two assists while Sundqvist also provided a helper on the Schenn goal midway through the second period. Jordan Binnington stopped 27 of 29 shots in a nice bounce-back performance following a disastrous showing last weekend against the San Jose Sharks.

“I thought (assistant coach Jim Montgomery) and the players really broke down how we were going to attack Anaheim’s penalty kill,” head coach Craig Berube said to the Associated Press. “These low plays around the net were open and they did a good job and took advantage of it.”

St. Louis has not been a good team against the spread at 6-17 while being favored in the vast majority of matchups this season, as all three of its wins during the current streak came by one goal. Overs are 13-10 for the Blues, although their last game against the Ducks went under the betting total of 5.5 goals.

The Blues have been a top 10 offense at 3.22 goals and 30.7 shots per game despite being shaky on the power play at 17.14%. St. Louis' defense has been better lately but still does not have great numbers for the season at 3.09 goals and 29.8 shots per game allowed while killing off 74.39% of penalties.

David Perron leads the Blues with 23 points, while Schenn is the top goal scorer for St. Louis with 11 on 60 shot attempts. Binnington has been inconsistent, posting a 9-6-2 record with a 2.62 goals against average and 0.910 save percentage.

It's a lengthy injury list for the Blues, led by star winger Vladimir Tarasenko who is hoping to return in mid-March from a shoulder problem. A whopping six other regulars are currently out of the lineup, with Jaden Schwartz, Carl Gunnarsson, Robert Thomas and Ivan Barbashev out long-term. Tyler Bozak and Colton Parayko are hoping to return quickly from upper body injuries, and it is unclear if they will play with Friday.

Kings lose a tight one to Coyotes
After a six-game winning streak in February, the Kings have come crashing back to earth with three straight losses including Wednesday night against Arizona. The Coyotes scored three goals in the span of four minutes midway through the second period to go up 3-1, and Gabriel Vilardi's third-period goal wasn't enough to complete the comeback.

The Kings racked up 42 shots on goal, but couldn't solve Antti Raanta as only Vilardi and Drew Doughty found the back of the net. Jonathan Quick allowed three goals on 23 shot attempts, as Arizona got the win despite Los Angeles carrying the run of play.

“Obviously our penalty kill let us down tonight,” coach Todd MacLellan said to the Associated Press. “We made two critical mistakes, and they capitalized on the mistakes that we saw last year in our penalty kill. We think we’ve corrected them, and they’re creeping back in, so we’ve got work to do there.”

Los Angeles has been one of the best teams in the NHL against the spread at 16-5 , as it has been a plus money underdog in all but three games this season and has played better than expected. Overs are 12-9 for the Kings, although four of their last five games have gone under the betting total.

The Kings are might in the middle of the pack offensively at 2.9 goals and 28.7 shots per game while converting 25% on the power play. Los Angeles grades out about the same defensively at 2.76 goals and 31.5 shots per game allowed, and has done a very nice job on the penalty kill at 83.58%.

Anze Kopitar leads the Kings with 24 points, while Dustin Brown has a team-high 11 goals and +5. Los Angeles has split playing time evenly in net, with Calvin Petersen outplaying by posting a 2.43 goals against average and 0.928 save percentage.

The Kings are relatively healthy at this stage, although promising young center Jaret Anderson-Dolan is out indefinitely with an undisclosed injury after posting five points in six games. Winger Martin Frk is also out indefinitely with a lower body injury.

The Sharks are coming off a shutout loss and host a Golden Knights team that is atop the West Division and riding a four-game winning streak.

The Golden Knights have reeled off four straight wins and while in first place in the West the division is a tight one. The team has a solid attack and their D ranks second in the league only giving up an average of 2.11 goals per game. Vegas beat San Jose on the road in the only matchup this season with three being postponed due to COVID-19.

The Sharks have lost three of their last four games and they are one point out of the basement in the West. The team has given up many goals as of late as well as on the season tied with Ottawa for giving up the most goals per game (3.80). San Jose has lost four of their last five games facing Vegas.

Five a Little Easier This Time
In the Golden Knights last game they were at home and beat the Minnesota Wild 5-1 and had it a little tougher in their previous game beating the Wild 5-4 in OT. In the last game five different players scored for Vegas, they scored three goals in the second period, and they were outshot 37-28.

Marc-Andre Fleury (11.3-0 1.71 GAA) was legit in net sopping 36 of 27 shots. He had given up four goals in his previous start but still ranks second in the league in GAA. He will likely get the start in this game with backup Robin Lehner (3-1-1 2.96 GAA) out with injury.

Max Pacioretty (10 goals) leads a balanced Vegas attack that has six players with at least five goals. Mark Stone leads the team with 24 points and scored a goal and had an assist in the last game and has a goal and seven assist over his last five games. On the season the Golden Knights are 4-2-0 on the road.

A Tad Different
After beating the Colorado Avalanche 6-2 at home the Sharks faced them again in their last game and it was a little different outcome in a 4-0 loss. San Jose was 0-3 on the power play, gave up three goals in the third period, and were outshot 38-26. Martin Jones (7-6-1 3.72 GAA) took the loss giving up four goals on 38 shots and he has given up four goals in two of his last three starts. Devan Dubnyk (1-4-1 3.46 GAA) may get the call in this game and was lit up for seven goals in his last start.
The Sharks were shut out in their last game after putting up a season-high six goals in two straight games. Evander Kane was hot with four goals and four assists in four games before being blanked in the last one. Logan Couture is the team leader in both goals (11) and points (19) and he had four goals and two assists before going scoreless in the last game. This season San Jose is 2-4-0 on home ice.
