The Pac-12 gets a Monday afternoon tilt as the Washington St. Cougars head into Tempe to take on the Arizona St. Sun Devils. This will be the second game in a row the teams have played each other, coming off an exciting overtime game Saturday in which the Sun Devils prevailed 77-74. The Cougars are 9th place in the Pac-12 with a 7-12 record in the conference (14-12 overall) and the Sun Devils are in 7th place at 7-8 (11-12). Both teams will be playing for the best seeding they can get in the Pac-12 Tournament starting March 10th in Las Vegas.

Arizona St. Gaining Momentum
Three wins in a row is a good way to build steam with the conference tournament on the horizon because Arizona St. still has the slightest of chances to make the NCAA Tournament. The only way they can go dancing is by winning the upcoming Pac-12 Tournament. If they can beat Washington St. again Monday afternoon and finish the regular season with a win against Utah, no one will want to face them in the conference tournament. Currently 98th in Ken Pomeroy’s college basketball rankings, the Sun Devils were expected to be far better this season.
One thing the Sun Devils have going for them is their star, Remy Martin, who hit the game-winning 3-pointer to beat the Cougars with 0.4 seconds left in overtime. As head coach Bobby Hurley told Arizona Sports, “(Martin) has hit so many big shots in his career at Arizona St.” He led all scorers with 23 points and has scored 20 points eight games in a row, good for third-longest streak of 20-point games in Pac-12 history. Jalen Graham put up a double-double with 11 points, 12 rebounds, and added four blocks to the fray.

Washington St. Stumbling to the Finish Line
This is their final game of the regular season so a loss would make it three in a row heading into the Pac-12 Tournament. Like the Sun Devils, the Cougars would need to win the conference tournament to get into the NCAA Tournament, but that is a steep hill to climb. Before the heartbreaking loss to Arizona St., the Cougars lost by 17 to Arizona and do not fare well on the road where they are 3-6 overall this year. In fact, in their last 19 games on the road, they have gone an atrocious 4-15.
There have been positive signs for the Cougars, of course. While he is not as big of a star as the Sun Devils’ Remy Martin, Washington State’s Isaac Bonton is certainly no slouch. He’s leading the team in points per game at 17.7 as well as assists (4) and steals (2). Consider, however, that Bonton did not play the last game and is still questionable for tomorrow’s contest. If that’s the case, they will need big games from second-leading scorer Noah Williams, who had a solid game against the Sun Devils on Saturday with 15 points and six assists.

The Dayton Flyers will travel to the Reilly Center on Monday evening to take on the St Bonaventure Bonnies in their final A10 Conference game of the season. These programs have not faced off against one another yet this season so it will be interesting to see how they face off against each other. The Flyers are eighth in the A10 with a 12-8 record and an 8-7 conference record. They are coming off a 97-84 road loss against the Saint Joseph’s Hawks on Wednesday. The Bonnies are the top team in the A10 with a 13-3 record and an 11-3 conference record. They are on a three-game winning streak after defeating the George Washington Colonials 88-41 on Friday.

These two offenses have been playing very similarly so far this season so it will be interesting to see which defense can get a couple of key stops down the stretch. Let’s take a deeper dive into the programs to decide where we should be placing our wagers.

He’s Your Crutch-er
Senior guard Jalen Crutcher has been leading the scoring output for the Dayton Flyers this season. He is averaging 18.8 points, 3.9 rebounds, 4.9 assists, and 0.9 steals in 39.1 minutes per game. He is shooting well as he is 48.1 percent from the floor, 36.5 percent from deep, and 77.2 percent from the charity stripe. In his last game against the Hawks, Crutcher played 38 minutes and finished with 17 points, six rebounds, four assists, a steal, and three turnovers. He will need to clean up his sloppy play if the Flyers want to win this game.
The Dayton Flyers have been an average defense up to this point in the season as they are giving up 68 points. In their last game against the Saint Joseph’s Hawks, they allowed 97 points on 31-of-64 (48.4 percent) from the floor, 18-of-42 (42.9 percent) from beyond the arc, and 19 free-throw opportunities. If they can figure out how to defend the three-point line more effectively, they will be in a better spot defensively.

Lofton Up the Offense
The St. Bonaventure Bonnies have been depending on junior guard Kyle Lofton to dominate on the offensive side of the ball. On the year he is averaging 14.8 points, 3.1 rebounds, 5.4 assists, and 1.4 steals in 38.1 minutes per game. He needs to improve his range as he is 44.6 percent from the floor, 23.1 percent from beyond the arc, and 80.3 percent from the free-throw line. In his last game against the Colonials, Lofton played 33 minutes and finished with 12 points, two rebounds, 10 assists, and a pair of steals. If he can repeat this performance on both sides of the floor, the Bonnies will be thrilled.

The St Bonaventure Bonnies have been great defensively this season as they are giving up 60.9 points per game. In their last game against the George Washington Colonials, they allowed 41 points on 15-of-46 (32.6 percent) from the floor, 2-of-13 (15.4 percent) from beyond the arc, and 15 free-throws. If they can limit the amount of three-point shots like they did here, they will greatly decrease that number of points allowed.

The No. 15 Virginia Cavaliers will look to snap a three-game losing streak when they host the Miami Hurricanes on Monday evening in ACC action. Virginia's slide continued on Thursday with a 68-61 home loss to the NC State Wolfpack as an 11-point favorite, dropping the Cavaliers to 15-6 overall (11-5 ACC). It's been a tough season for injury-riddled Miami at 7-15 (3-14 ACC), including a 66-58 loss to the Clemson Tigers as a 13-point road underdog on Saturday.

This all-time series is knotted up at 12 games apiece, but Virginia has won seven of the last nine meetings dating back to 2013.

Miami's losing streak reaches five
Injuries totally derailed Miami's season early on, and the Hurricanes are now just playing out the string after taking another loss at Clemson over the weekend. Miami was at least more competitive on Saturday and even held a 19-12 lead early, but would only score 28 points in the second half including missing six straight shots after cutting the Clemson lead to 59-54 in the final five minutes.

Isaiah Wong continued his torrid scoring pace with 28 points on 10/18 shooting from the field, while Anthony Walker put up a double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds. The issues came on the defensive end, as Clemson shot 49.1% from the field including 11/22 from three-point range.

“I thought our guys played really, really hard for a major portion of the game,” head coach Jim Larraņaga said via Miami's student newspaper. “We executed the plan extremely well, unfortunately the physicality of the game was just a little too much when we were trying the ball to the rim. That ended up some turnovers, some charges, some steals by Clemson."

Miami has fared a little better against the spread at 10-12, and the competitive loss to Clemson snapped a three-game streak of failing to cover. Overs are also 10-12 for the Hurricanes this season, with the low-scoring outing against Clemson snapping a streak of four overs in the previous five games.

The Hurricanes are nearing the sub-300 range in scoring at 66 points per game on below average shooting splits of 48.3% from two and 29.5% from three. Opponents are putting up 71.4 points per game while shooting 50.3% from two and 37.1% from beyond the arc, one of the worst defensive marks in the nation.

Wong has been the bright spot with a breakout sophomore season, averaging 17.1 points, 5.1 rebounds and 1.2 steals per game. Kameron McGusty and Elijah Olaniyi are also averaging double figures in scoring to pace the Miami offense.

It's been a long injury list all season long, as preseason All-ACC point guard Chris Lykes has been limited to just two games by an ankle injury and won't play the rest of the year. Two other prominent backcourt contributors in Harold Beverly (back) and Earl Timberlake (shoulder) are also out for the season. Freshman forward Matt Cross, a top 100 recruit, entered the transfer portal last month and is headed to Louisville. Forwards Rodney Miller (knee) and Sam Waardenburg (foot) are also out for the season with leg injuries after starting a combined 52 games last year.

Virginia suffers huge upset
The Cavaliers are on the brink of their first four-game losing streak since 2017 after taking a bad home loss to NC State on Thursday and are now a game back in the loss column behind Florida State atop the ACC. Virginia could not hit a shot in the early going falling behind 24-10 with six minutes left in the first and allowed NC State a 12-2 run after fighting back to take the lead early in the second.

Sam Hauser had 21 points to lead all scorers, while Jay Huff piled up 19 points, 11 rebounds, three steals and five blocks. Virginia still managed just a mark of 30% shooting from the field, and NC State doubled up the Cavaliers from the free throw line with 28 attempts.

“The message was don't hang your head. You can't do that. The pillars in our program matter and you stay unified. One thing you must do is look in the mirror and say, am I being as physically tough and mentally sound and tough as I absolutely can be to give ourselves the best chance to be as good as we can be," head coach Tony Bennett said to 247sports about the rare losing streak.

Virginia falls to .500 against the spread at 10-10-1 and has not covered during the three-game losing streak while dropping games to Duke and No. 11 Florida State. Overs are 12-9 for the Cavaliers, with each of their last three games going over the betting total.

The Cavaliers, who run the slowest tempo in the nation once again, are putting up 68.8 points per game and have shot the ball well at 54.9% from two (35th) and 39.3% from three (9th). Virginia is seventh in scoring defense at 60.6 points per game allowed on opponent shooting splits of 46.9% from two and 34% from beyond the arc.

Hauser has made a huge impact after transferring from Marquette with 15.3 points and 6.8 rebounds per game on 44.5% percent shooting from three. Huff is in the running for ACC Player of the Year with an average of 13.6 points, seven rebounds and 2.5 blocks per game on 60.5% shooting from the floor.

Guard Thomas Woldetensae, who averages 4.5 points per game in around 14 minutes played, is questionable for Monday due to COVID protocols.

As the A-10 regular season winds down, there is still much to be decided on tournament seedings. The Richmond Spiders (13-6, 6-4 A10) come into tonight’s home matchup with Saint Joseph’s (3-14, 2-9 A10) in fifth place. However, a win tonight will move the Spiders up to either third (if Saint Louis beats UMass) or fourth (if UMass beats Saint Louis). A loss could drop Richmond as low as eighth in the conference depending on how the other games go. With so much in the air, this is a pivotal matchup.

The Spiders are coming into tonight’s game off a 72-67 loss to Saint Louis. Richmond got down early by 13, but managed to close the gap all the way through the second half. The Billikens finished the game on a 9-4 run to earn the tough victory. Blake Francis scored 24 points for the Spiders, with Nathan Cayo and Grant Golden each added 10 points. Despite the loss, Richmond should have an easy time against the Hawks, who they beat 79-56 back on January 26th, right?

As Lee Corso likes to say, not so fast my friend. The Hawks have won two games in a row, including a shocking 97-84 win over Dayton last time out. Over the past two games, Saint Joseph’s has hit 29 three pointers. Eighteen of those came against the Flyers in a game where the Hawks hit 42.9% of their three point shots. All five starters combined for every point in the win. Taylor Funk led the way with 36 points and six rebounds. He and Ryan Daly (25 points, seven rebounds) each hit five three pointers in the game. Jordan Hall (16 points) and Cameron Brown (18 points) each hit four threes in the win.

The Spiders are a heavy favorite at home, but the spread may be a little too wide for the Hawks right now. We will break down this matchup.

After Dying By the Three, Hawks Now Living By the Three
In case you don’t know much about the Saint Joseph’s Hawks, we got you. The Hawks love to shoot the three and they play no defense. Really. The Hawks take 62 shots per game, and average 31 three-point attempts per game. For most of the season, that worked against the Hawks. But in their last two games, Saint Joseph’s has hit 27 combined three pointers. They took an astounding 42 three-point attempts against Dayton and hit 18 of them.
The Hawks are led by Ryan Daly, who averages 20.1 ppg and 6.4 rpg. Taylor Funk is a 34.9% three-point shooter, who averages 17.6 ppg and 5.8 rpg. Jack Forrest averages 11.2 ppg and 3.5 rpg while hitting 35.5% of his three-point shots.

Offensively, the Hawks rank fourth in the Atlantic 10 in scoring, averaging 71.6 points per game. Saint Joseph’s is 12th in field goal percent (40.9%), 10th in two-point field goal percent (48.5%), and sixth in three-point field goal percent (33.2%).

This Saint Joseph’s defense ranks dead last in the Atlantic Ten in scoring defense (80.7 ppg), 12th in field goal percent defense (46.7%), 12th in two-point field goal percent defense (53.3%), and ninth in three-point field goal percent defense (34.3%).

The key for Saint Joseph’s will be their shooting. If Saint Joseph’s can approach their shooting performance from the past two games, things could get very interesting.

Much On the Line for the Spiders In This Game
As outlined in the game preview, the Richmond Spiders have a ton riding on this game. Every step up in seeding equals an easier road to the finals, which is Richmond’s goal. The best case scenario lands the Spiders in third place, which keeps them away from top seed St. Bonaventure until the finals.

The Spiders lead the conference statistically in points scored (74.1 ppg), and are third in field goal percentage (45.9%), fourth in two-point field goal percentage (51.4%), and second in three-point field goal percentage (36.4%). Defensively, Richmond is ninth in points allowed with 69.0 ppg. The Spiders are 13th in field goal percent defense (47.7%), 13th in two-point field goal percent defense (55.6%), and are sixth in three-point field goal percent defense (32.6%).

Richmond sports a balanced offense, led by Blake Frances, Grant Golden, Tyler Burton, and Nathan Cayo. Frances leads the team with 16.9 ppg and shoots 36.6% from beyond the arc. Golden averages 13.2 ppg, 6.2 rpg, and 3.8 apg. Burton (7.5 rpg) and Cayo (4.3 rpg) each averages 12.1 ppg.

The Saint Louis Billikens will look wraps things up on a high note when they host the Massachusetts Minutemen for their season finale. Both programs have been hindered by health protocols this season, but if the Billikens can close out the regular season strong and they steal a few wins in the A10 tournament, Selection Sunday could be good to them.

Minutemen Flying Under the Radar
UMass (7-5, 6-3) has had a season full of layoffs, but they have remained a steady presence in the Atlantic 10. They sit at third in the conference, and with such a short sample, they'd need to win the A10 tournament to reach the Big Dance.
The Minutemen have won two of their last three, and enter this game averaging 76.8 points per game. They're led by sophomore center Tre Mitchell, who just returned last weekend against Richmond. Mitchell leads the team in scoring (18.9) and rebounding (7.1) and his presence in the middle was sorely missed.

Fellow sophomore Noah Fernandes returned last week as well. The 5'11 guard averages 11.1 points per game and leads the team in assists (4.7). Hometown senior guard Carl Pierre is second on the team in scoring at 13.2 points per game, and freshman Ronnie DeGray III joins Mitchell up front and he averages 8.8 points per game.

Billikens Looking to Bow Out Strong
Saint Louis got off to a fast 7-1 start this season, which included non-conference wins over N.C. State and LSU. The Billikens would then miss nearly a month of action and they'd lose their first two games upon returning.
This road test is the beginning of a tough road stretch to end the season for the Billikens, who will need to finish strong and have a strong Atlantic 10 Tournament in order to earn an at-large bid.

Saint Louis is led by the dynamic guard pairing of Javonte Perkins and Jordan Goodwin. Perkins is the team's leading scorer at 17.1 points per game, and he scored 25 in the win over VCU last season. Goodwin averages 14.6 points per game, and he leads the team in rebounding with an impressive 10.4 rebounds per game. He had a double-double in last year's meeting, and so did sophomore guard Yuri Collins, who leads the team in assists (6.2). Gibson Jimerson and Hasahn French round out the starting five. Jimerson averages 9.9 points per game, while French grabs 7.1 rebounds per game.

The North Carolina Tar Heels will look to build on a huge victory when they visit the Syracuse Orange on Monday night in an important ACC game. North Carolina is coming off its best performance of the season on Saturday, a 78-70 upset over the No. 11 Florida State Seminoles as a two-point home underdog to improve to 15-8 overall (9-5 ACC). Syracuse took a damaging 84-77 road loss to the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets as a five-point underdog over the weekend, and is now 13-8 overall (7-7 ACC).

Ten of the last 11 meetings dating back to 2014 have gone in favor of the Tar Heels, who lead the all-time series 14-5 after winning 81-75 in Chapel Hill on January 12 as a five-point favorite.

North Carolina earns massive upset win
Just three days after taking a bad home loss to the Marquette Golden Eagles, the Tar Heels are back in the projected NCAA Tournament field as they came from behind to beat first-place Florida State over the weekend. The Tar Heels looked to be in major trouble early trailing by as many as 16 points in the first half, but a 16-2 run spanning the break helped North Carolina take the lead for good with 12 minutes to go as it made 14 straight free throws down the stretch.

Four North Carolina freshmen finished in double figures scoring, led by Walker Kessler off the bench with 20 on 9/10 shooting from the field. Neither team shot the ball well from the field, but North Carolina went 27/30 from the free-throw line and grabbed 17 offensive rebounds to make the difference.

And so we are good free throw shooters, we've just got to be able to do it when the bright lights are on, the cameras are on and that kind of thing. But I do think that it should give them some confidence. But we put them under a little stress at the free-throw line every single day that they miss, they get an opportunity to run more or those nice things like that,” said head coach Roy Williams, who earned his 900th career win, to 247sports.

It hasn't been a great year for the Tar Heels against the spread, but they have covered in three of their last four games including a 45-point win over the Louisville Cardinals last week. Overs are 10-13 for the Tar Heels, with the Florida State game going narrowly under the betting total to snap a streak of three straight overs.

North Carolina has put up 74.2 points per game despite some shaky shooting splits of 49% from two and 30.9% from three. Opponents are scoring 69.4 points per game against North Carolina while shooting 46.8% from two and 35.4% from beyond the arc.

Armando Bacot is having a strong season at 11.2 points and 7.4 rebounds per game on 61.9% shooting from the floor. Five other Tar Heels average at least eight points per game, including Garrison Brooks at 10.4 points and seven rebounds per contest.

Forward Sterling Manley looks likely to miss his second straight season due to knee problems. Freshman guard Puff Johnson, a top 60 recruit in this year's class, has been out over a month with a toe injury with no timetable to return.

Syracuse's bubble bursts
The Orange had some hopes of playing their way into an NCAA Tournament at-large entering the week, but likely now have to win out after losing at fellow bubble team Georgia Tech on Saturday. Syracuse used a 15-2 run to take a 39-34 lead at halftime, but its defense crumbled in the second half as the Yellow Jackets piled up 50 points to win comfortably.

Alan Griffin led the Orange with 26 points on 9/15 shooting from the field, with Joseph Girard III adding 10 points, three assists and two steals. The Orange could not stop Georgia Tech on the interior, as the Yellow Jackets shot 59.6% on two-point attempts.

It's been a tough year for Syracuse against the spread at 8-13, and it has failed to cover in three of its last four games including being blown out by Duke last Monday. Overs are 11-10 this season for the Orange after their two games this week both went well over the betting total.

Syracuse has enjoyed a strong year offensively at 69th nationally with 76.3 points per game on shooting splits of 50.7% from two and 33.1% from three. Defense has been the concern, as Syracuse has allowed 71.6 points per game on 50.3% shooting from two and 37.1% from beyond the arc.

All five Syracuse starters are in double figures, led by Griffin at 15.5 points per game to go along with his 6.8 rebounds, 1.5 steals and 1.6 blocks per contest. Quincy Guerrier is nearly averaging a double-double at 14.7 points and 9.1 rebounds per game on 49.6% shooting from the field.

Center Bourama Sidibe, who started all 32 games last year with an average of six points and 7.6 rebounds, is nearing a return from a meniscus injury but likely won't play on Monday. Bench forwards Frank Anselem (COVID protocols) and Chad Owens (undisclosed) remain out indefinitely.

Two Big Ten teams meet for a late-season matchup Monday as Rutgers travels to Nebraska to take on the Cornhuskers. Many believe that the Scarlet Knights are a lock to make the NCAA Tournament with their current 13-9 overall record and 9-9 conference record, but a win to bolster their resume would be nice. The Cornhuskers are a lowly 6-17 overall and 2-14 in conference play, and they hope to play spoiler as well as finish out their season on a high note, with just three games left on their schedule.

Knights pick up big win against Indiana, hope to head into Big Ten Tourney with momentum
Rutgers snapped their two-game skid with a big win over Indiana this past Wednesday, a win that many believed has made them a lock to make the NCAA Tournament. The Scarlet Knights have a strong resume this season in the highly-competitive Big Ten, but if they were to close out their regular-season schedule on a high note, that would further solidify their chances for postseason play. Nebraska has been one of the worst teams in the conference this season, and Rutgers hopes to take advantage of them on Wednesday.

The Scarlet Knights have ridden their terrific team defense that only surrenders 67.8 points per game into what has been a successful 2021 campaign, and they could be a sleeper team headed into the postseason due to the fact that they play in the best conference in college basketball and have played well. Led by backcourt stud Jacob Young who has 37 steals on the year and 6-11 rim defender Myles Johnson who has 56 blocks in 22 games, the Scarlet Knights have the defense to give just about anyone problems the rest of the way and present a nightmare matchup for Nebraska, who struggles on offense.

Cornhuskers not awful on paper, but have not possessed the talent to compete this season
Perhaps if they played in another conference, Nebraska may have had a much better season in 2021. But, as it sits with just three games left, they have managed just six wins in 23 games and have won just two Big Ten contests. On paper, Nebraska is not quite as bad as their record indicated, but they have lost numerous close games and do not possess the star power on offense to get buckets when they need them most.
The Huskers now prepare for a Rutgers team who plays tough defense and looks to turn them over plenty. It is senior night in Lincoln, so maybe they will come out on a mission, but their season appears to be all but over with three games left, and they will require some heroic offensive performances to be able to compete with a clearly superior team on both ends of the floor in Rutgers on Monday night.

(Edit: Nebraska just lost leading scorer Teddy Allen, who is leaving the program)
