In a Central Division battle, the Carolina Hurricanes will go on the road and take on the Florida Panthers. Carolina has a record of 13-6-1 while Florida has a record of 13-4-3. These two teams have played each other twice this season with each team winning one game.

Hurricanes Snap Losing Streak
The Hurricanes snapped a three game losing streak by defeating the Florida Panthers 4-3 in a shootout victory on Saturday. Jake Bean, Warren Foegele, and Vincent Trocheck each scored a goal. James Reimer stopped 28 out of 31 shots faced.

Offense has been a strength for the Canes this season. They have scored three goals or more in seven of the last 10 games. It has been a very balanced effort offensively for the Canes. Nine players have double digit points on the season. The team ranks seventh in goals per game, sixth in shots per game, eighth in scoring efficiency ratio, and 10th in shooting %.

Goaltending has suffered since Petr Mrazek was sidelined with a thumb injury. James Reimer has given up three goals or more in nine of his last 10 starts. Reimer has a record of 9-3-0 with a 2.97 GAA and a .897 SV%. The team ranks 13th in goals against per game, fifth in shots against per game, and 20th in opponent shooting % and save %. Carolina has given up three goals or more in nine of their last 10 games.

Panthers Coming off Loss
The Panthers are coming off a 4-3 shootout loss against the Carolina Hurricanes on Saturday. Patric Hornqvist, Jonathan Huberdeau, and Frank Vatrano each scored a goal. Sergei Bobrovsky stopped 30 out of 33 shots faced.
Offense has been a strength for the Panthers this season. They have scored three goals or more in seven of their last 10 games. The team ranks ninth in goals per game, first in shots per game, and seventh in scoring efficiency ratio. Much like the Hurricanes, it has been a very balanced effort on offense for Florida. Nine players have double digit points on the season.

Goaltending has been solid for Florida recently. They have given up two goals or less in four of their last six games. Chris Driedger has outplayed Sergei Bobrovski in net. Driedger has a record of 7-2-1 with a 2.18 GAA and a .928 SV%. Bobrovski has a record of 6-2-2 with a 3.02 GAA and a .899 SV%. Driedger should see more starts come his way. The team ranks 11th in goals against per game, 20th in shots against per game, and 11th in opponent shooting % and save %.

The Calgary Flames will take on the Ottawa Senators in a North Division battle. The Flames have a record of 10-10-2. The Senators have a record of 7-15-1. These two teams have faced each other twice this season with each team winning one game.

Flames Coming off Victory
The Flames won their last game 6-3 against the Ottawa Senators on Saturday. Mikael Backlund had three points in the game. Johnny Gaudreau, Andrew Mangiapane, and Matthew Tkachuk each had two points in the game. David Rittich stopped 31 out of 34 shots faced.

Goaltending has been a problem for the Flames recently. They have given up three goals or more in six of their last nine games. The team ranks 20th in goals against per game, 21st in shots against per game, and 16th in opponent shooting % and save %. With Jacob Markstrom out due to an upper body injury, David Rittich has seen more starts lately. Rittich has a record of 2-4-1 with a 2.77 GAA and a .907 SV%.

Offense has been poor for the Flames in recent games. Calgary has put up one goal in six out of their last nine games. They rank 26th in goals per game, 23rd in shots per game and shooting %, and 22nd in scoring efficiency ratio. Eight players have over 10 points on the season for the team.

Senators Winning Streak Snapped
Ottawa had their three game winning streak snapped on Saturday. They lost 6-3 against the Calgary Flames. Thomas Chabot and Drake Batherson each had two points in the game. Matt Murray started the game and gave up six goals on 33 shots faced. Murray was pulled at the start of the third period for Joey Daccord, who then stopped all five shots faced.
Offense has improved lately for Ottawa. They have scored three goals or more in six of their last seven games. Although their offense has been trending in the right direction lately, they still only rank 25th in goals per game, third in shots per game, and dead last in scoring efficiency ratio. When a team ranks third in shots per game, they should typically rank high in goals per game.

Defense and goaltending are a weakness for the Sens. The team ranks last in goals against per game, opponent shooting %, and save %. Matt Murray and Marcus Hogberg have been struggling in net this season. Murray has a record of 5-10-1 with a 3.72 GAA and a .884 SV% while Hogberg is 2-5-0 with a 4.34 GAA and a .859 SV%.

The Winnipeg Jets have been one of the hottest teams in the North Division and the NHL, winning their last 4 games and 5 of the last 6. The Jets will hope to extend their winning streak as they host a struggling Vancouver Canucks team that might look to sell at the trade deadline. The Canucks will need to turn things around quickly as they are currently on a 4 game losing streak.

Canucks defense has been embarrassing
The Vancouver Canucks have disappointed in all facets of the game this season, entering this season as a potential dark horse to win the North Division but are currently holding the second-worst record in the division. The biggest failure this season has been the defense, which allows 3.5 goals per game and has been a disappointment across the board. Tyler Myers and Nate Schmidt have played well but young and promising defensemen like Quinn Hughes have become liabilities on that end. Likewise, the goaltending duo of Braden Holtby and Thatcher Demko has not lived up to expectations, with both goalies allowing 3.2 goals per game or more.

While the defense has struggled the offense has tried to keep the Canucks in games. Brock Boeser leads the offense with 12 goals on the season and while Quinn Hughes has played poorly on the defensive side, he leads the team in assists with 19. The Canucks also have 7 skaters that have scored 4 goals or more this season as part of an offense that is generally trying to make up for the defensive woes.

Jets offense has been thriving this season
The Winnipeg Jets have catapulted themselves into the top of the North Division with their winning streak and have looked like one of the best teams in the process. The offense has led the way as it has been great this entire season, scoring 3.4 goals per game. Mark Scheifele and Nickolaj Ehlers have both been excellent this season, scoring 11 goals each while Kyle Connor has added 10 to the Jets offense as well.

While the offense has carried the team all season, the defense is starting to improve and thus turn the Jets into serious Cup contenders. The pairing of Derek Forbort and Neal Pionk has been incredible for the Jets in all facets of the game combining 2.4 defensive point shares, 66 blocked shots, and 18 assists. In addition, Connor Hellebuyck has emerged as the workhorse in the goal as he has started 16 games and is only allowing 2.5 goals per game.

The St. Louis Blue and Anaheim Ducks have both underachieved in the West Division this season. While the Blues have been in the middle of the pack this year, the Ducks have fallen off and currently have the worst record in the division. With the season already a month and a half underway, both teams are hoping to string together a bunch of victories to earn playoff position and this game is going to be pivotal for both the Ducks and the Blues.

Blues are coming off a 7-6 victory
If there were any questions about the Blues' offense, they were quickly erased in the recent victory where the offense scored 7 goals in a victory against the Sharks. The offensive play has started to step up in recent games as Brayden Schenn has 10 goals on the season while Ryan O'Reilly and Jordan Kyrou have 7 goals each. In addition, Torey Krug has emerged as one of the Blues' best play-makers as he has 11 assists despite being a defenseman.

Speaking of Krug, he leads an injury-plagued defense that has struggled but has the talent to be one of the best in the NHL. Krug and Justin Faulk lead the top pairing defensively, with 3.2 defensive point shares between them and 50 blocked shots. Despite struggling in the recent victory, Jordan Binnington has been incredible in goal for the Blues, allowing only 2.6 goals per game.

Ducks are searching for offense
The Ducks have lost their last 6 games and have only won 6 games in their first 21. The offense has been especially terrible this season, only scoring 1.9 goals per game. While Max Comtois looks to be a bright spot to build around for the Ducks as the 22-year-old has 8 goals on the season, nobody else in the lineup has more than 4 goals this season.

The defense has played surprisingly well this season, allowing only 2.8 goals per game and keeping the Ducks competitive in their losses. Jani Hakanpaa, Cam Fowler, Kevin Shattenkirk, and Hampus Lindholm have all played incredibly well this season with each defenseman contributing at least one defensive point share and 19 blocked shots this season. Along with the strong play defensively, the Ducks have strong play from their starting goaltender John Gibson, who has a .907 save percentage and is only allowing 2.6 goals per game.

The Toronto Maple Leafs continue to win. Toronto won its second straight with a 4-0 victory over Edmonton in the first of two consecutive games against the Oilers. Toronto has won five of the last six and the Maple Leafs are pulling away in the North division with a record of 16-4-2 and 34 points. Toronto is six points clear of second-place Edmonton. The Maple Leafs are playing exceptionally well on both ends of the ice averaging 3.55 goals per game and allowing only an average of 2.50 calls per game.

Edmonton's 5-game winning streak was snapped with its loss to Toronto on Saturday, but the Oilers are 14-9-0 with 28 points and in second place one point ahead of third-place Winnipeg and six points behind Toronto. Edmonton has won eight of the last 10 and the Oilers are one of the highest scoring teams in the NHL averaging 3.43 goals per game, but the blue line and goaltending has been suspect as Edmonton is allowing an average of 3.00 goals per game.

Toronto Unstoppable to start the season
Toronto has won 16 of its first 22 games of the regular season and are six points clear of second-place Edmonton in the North division and overall the Maple Leafs are five points clear of their nearest competitors Tampa Bay and Florida. Toronto's offense is generating plenty of goals and Auston Matthews is the leading goal scorer for Toronto with 18. Matthews leads all other goal scorers in the NHL by four goals. Mitch Marner is the leader in assists for Toronto with 22 and is also the overall points leader for the Maple Leafs with 32. The Toronto power play scores 32.4% of time with the man advantage.
Toronto's blue line and goaltending is holding its own as well. Frederik Andersen is 11-3-2 with a 2.69 goals-against average and .905 save percentage. Andersen is questionable for Monday’s game with Edmonton. Backup Jack Campbell has not seen much action but is 3-0-0 with a 1.33 goals-against average and .951 save percentage. Campbell has one shutout in three appearances for Toronto. The penalty kill unit for Toronto has been effective 79.4% of the time when shorthanded.

Injury Report: Frederik Andersen and Austin Matthews are both questionable for Monday, while Wayne Simmons is out until late March.

Edmonton Scoring in Big Numbers
Edmonton is scoring an average of 3.43 goals-per-game led by Connor McDavid with 14 goals, Leon Draisaitl has scored 10 goals and Ryan Nugent-Hopkins has scored nine. McDavid is the assists leader with 26, while Draisaitl is close behind with 24 and overall McDavid is the leader in points with 40. The Oilers have been very strong on the power play scoring 22 goals led by McDavid with six goals. Edmonton's power-play is scoring 27.2% of the time.

While Edmonton is scoring plenty of goals, its blue line and goaltenders are giving up too many at 3.00 per game. Mikko Koskinen is 7-8-0 with a 3.26 goals-against average and .901 save percentage. Backup Mike Smith is 6-1-0 with a 2.04 goals against average and .934 save percentage. Smith has two shutouts in eight appearances. The Oilers penalty kill unit is killing off penalties at a rate of 77.5%.

Injury Report: James Neal is questionable for Monday, Zach Kassian and William Lagesson are out indefinitely, while Oscor Klefbom and Slater Koekkoek are out for the season

Minnesota is one of the NHL's hottest teams. The Wild have won six straight and moved into second place in the West division at 12-6-0 with 24 points. The Wild are tied with the St. Louis Blues and one point behind first-place Vegas. With a victory on Monday over Vegas, Minnesota could move into first place. Minnesota is getting excellent play between the pipes as the Wild have allowed a total of 10 goals during their six-game winning streak, and are now allowing an average of 2.44 goals per game on the season.

Vegas has won two straight sandwiched around two games being postponed. The Golden Knights lead the West division at 12-4-1 and 25 points but are being pressured by both St Louis and Minnesota, while Colorado is only two points back with 23. Vegas as one of the best goaltending units in the NHL and is allowing an average of only 2.06 goals-per-game, led by veteran netminder Marc-Andre Fleury

Wild Defense Improving each time out

In net, Kaapo Kahkonen is 8-4-0 with a 2.41 goals-against average and .915 save percentage. Backup Cam Talbot is 4-2-0 and .926 save percentage. The penalty kill unit for Minnesota has been successful 84.8% of the time when short handed.

Minnesota is also seeing excellent results and in the attack zone as the Wild are scoring an average of 3.17 goals per game led by Joel Eriksson Ek with a team-high eight goals, while Kevin Fiala has scored 6 goals. Jordan Greenway is the leader in assists for Minnesota with 12 and Kirill Kaprizov is the overall points leader with 17 followed by Greenway with 14. The only obvious weakness for Minnesota thus far this season has been the power play as Minnesota has scored just five power-play goals and has been successful only 7.9% of the time with the man advantage.

Injury Report: Marcus Johansson is questionable for Monday, while Alex Stalock is out indefinitely and Marco Rossi is out for the season.

Goaltending is Key to Vegas Success
Vegas has the best goaltending tandem, when healthy, in all of the NHL and as a team the Golden Knights are allowing an average of 2.06 goals per game. Marc-Andre Fleury is 9-3-0 with a 1.59 goals-against average and .941 save percentage. In 12 appearances between the pipes, Fleury has posted three shutouts.
