The Saint Joseph’s Hawks will be going for their fourth consecutive win when they face the La Salle Explorers in the first round of the Atlantic 10 Championship on Wednesday afternoon. The Hawks are coming off a 76-73 win over Richmond as 14.5-point underdogs. The Explorers are coming off an 89-54 loss to George Mason as seven-point underdogs.

La Salle is 6-4 in its last 10 games against Saint Joseph’s.

Hawks Need To Stay Hot Offensively
The Hawks won only four games this season, but three of those wins came in their final three games thanks to their play on the offensive end. They will try to pick up their fourth win in a row and advance to the next round of the tournament when they face the Explorers.

Saint Joseph’s is averaging 72.5 points per game, but they are averaging 88 points per game in their last three games. They finished with 76 points in their last game, making 40.3 percent of their field goals and 30.3 percent of their three-pointers.

Taylor Funk led the way for Saint Joseph’s with 22 points, six rebounds, and two assists. Cameron Brown finished with 15 points, three rebounds, and two assists, while Ryan Daly added 14 points, nine rebounds, and three assists for the Hawks.

Saint Joseph’s is one of the worst defensive teams in the nation, giving up 82.6 points per game. They gave up 73 points in their last game and will need a better performance if they want to win this game.

Explorers Trying To End Slump
The Explorers struggled down the stretch, losing five of their last six games. They split their season series with the Hawks and will try to snap out of their funk with another win over their rivals, which will give them their second win in their last three games.

La Salle isn’t very good offensively, averaging 68.2 points per game. They finished with 54 points in their last game, making 37.9 percent of their field goals and 22.7 percent of their three-pointers.

Jared Kimbrough led the way for La Salle with 21 points and three rebounds. David Beatty finished with 12 points and three rebounds, while Scott Spencer added 10 points and five rebounds for the Explorers.

La Salle has also struggled defensively, giving up 73.6 points per game. They gave up 89 points in their last game and will need a significantly better effort if they want to get the win

The Syracuse Orange will hope to build on a huge victory when they host the Clemson Tigers on Wednesday evening in a crucial ACC game. Syracuse is back in NCAA Tournament discussion after a 72-70 win over the North Carolina Tar Heels as a 2.5-point home underdog on Monday to improve to 14-8 overall (8-7 ACC). Clemson is currently safely in the field at 15-5 (9-5 ACC) after beating the Miami Hurricanes 66-58 last weekend as a 13-point home favorite for its fifth straight win.

These teams met on February 6, with Clemson winning 78-61 at home as a three-point favorite. Clemson has now won three straight in the series to take a 7-4 lead all-time.

Clemson grinds out fifth straight victory
The Tigers rolled to an undefeated record in February by holding shorthanded Miami at bay, and still have a shot at a top-three seed in next week's ACC Tournament. Miami didn't roll over immediately with a 21-16 lead through 10 minutes, but Clemson fought back to take a halftime lead and was in command following a 12-2 run midway through the second as the Hurricanes struggled from the field.

Aamir Simms led the Tigers with 19 points, six rebounds and two blocks on 8/12 shooting from the field, while Al-Amir Dawes added 19 points on an efficient 7/9 from the floor off the bench. Clemson was efficient enough on offense, shooting 49.1% from the field including 11/22 from three.

"We had to shoot the ball exceptionally well. I was really happy to see our players execute the way they did and make shots. We hit 11 threes. This was a challenging second half, but I thought our guys responded well. Guys made some big plays for us," head coach Brad Brownell said via Clemson's website after picking up his 200th career win with the Tigers.

Clemson falls to 10-9-1 against the spread this season and has failed to cover in two of its last three games after needing a buzzer-beater to beat Georgia Tech back on February 12 before going on pause. Overs are an even 10-10 for the Tigers, with the under on a two-game winning streak.

The Tigers are not a high-scoring team at 65.3 points per game to rank 308th nationally on shooting splits of 49.7% from two and 33.1% from three. Clemson's defense is among the best in college basketball, ranking 11th in scoring at 61.7 points per game allowed with opponents shooting 47.1% from two and 33% from beyond the arc.

Simms is the only Clemson player in double figures scoring at 13.6 points per game in addition to his team-high 6.2 rebounds and 2.5 assists per contest on 55.3% shooting from the floor. Nick Honor has put in 9.1 points and 2.4 assists per game while leading Clemson in three-point shooting at 39.8%.

Freshman forward PJ Hall, who plays around 11 minutes per game off the bench with an average of 4.1 points, has missed the last two games for undisclosed reasons and remains questionable.

Syracuse back on the bubble
After losing two crucial games last week to fall out of the projected field, Syracuse responded with a huge home win over North Carolina on Monday night. After struggling early with a 22-13 deficit, Syracuse turned up the defensive intensity with a pair of 15-2 runs to lead by as many as 14 points in the second half and managed to avoid a late collapse as Caleb Love missed a pair of key free throws for the Tar Heels.

Buddy Boeheim went off for 26 points on 6/13 shooting from three-point range, while Quincy Guerrier added 18 points and six rebounds. The Orange were mauled on the offensive glass as expected, but made up for it by holding North Carolina to 4/20 from three with 20 turnovers.

Syracuse improves to 9-13 against the spread this season, and had failed to cover in three of its past four games including losses to Duke and Georgia Tech before the minor upset of North Carolina. Overs are an even 11-11 for the Orange so far, with the North Carolina game going under to snap a streak of two straight overs.

The Orange have enjoyed a productive season on the defensive end at 76.1 points per game to rank 7nd nationally on shooting splits of 50.6% from two and 32.9% from three. Syracuse's defense has been the problem spot, allowing 71.5 points per game with opponents shooting 50.1% from two and 31.4% from beyond the arc.

Boeheim has taken over the lead in scoring for Syracuse recently at 15.9 points per game while adding 1.5 steals per contest. Alan Griffin is also over 15 points per game, while Guerrier has piled up 14.8 points and nine rebounds per contest.

Center Bourama Sidibe, who started every game last season with an average of six points and 7.6 rebounds, remains out while recovering from a meniscus injury and will not be available on Wednesday. Bench forwards Frank Anselem (COVID protocols) and Chad Owens (undisclosed) are out indefinitely.

Wichita State heads south to face the Tulane Green Wave in New Orleans for Wednesday night basketball. Wichita State stands atop the AAC standings fresh off an upset win over Houston, while Tulane is second to last in the conference.

Wichita State Looking Ahead to March Madness
As of March 2nd, ESPN's Joe Lunardi predicts Wichita State will grab a 12th seed in the NCAA Tournament. That likelihood is looking even better after a recent upset win over 9th-ranked Houston at home.

The 68-63 win came on the backs of Tyson Etienne and Alterique Gilbert, both of whom scored 16 points. They managed to limit Houston star Quentin Grimes to 13 points and outshot the Cougars from three (45.5% vs. 33.3%) and limiting their chances at the line, only allowing 11 free throw attempts. It also helped that Houston was only able to convert on five of those attempts.

Wichita State is ranked 74th in Ken Pomeroy's college basketball rankings. That includes being ranked 54th overall in adjusted offensive efficiency (110.5 points per 100 possessions) and 105th in adjusted defensive efficiency (98.3 points allowed per 100 possessions.)

Tulane Looking to End Season Strong
It's been a rough go for Tulane this season. They're currently ranked 11th out of 12 teams in the AAC with a 4-11 conference record, 9-11 overall. Their last time out was a 91-71 blowout loss to Cincinnati on the road. That's now three in a row they've lost, including a 61-46 loss to Memphis the game before that.
The Green Wave couldn't keep up with the Bearcats in any way their last time out. Cincinnati outshot them 50.8% from the field vs 42.9% for Tulane, out-rebounded Tulane 39-25, and dished out 23 assists to Tulane's meager 8 on the night. This all came despite Jaylen Forbes' 37-point night, a career-high for the sophomore. He leads Tulane in scoring with 17.1 points per game.

Ken Pomeroy's rankings have Tulane at 139th in the nation, including a ranking at 244 for adjusted offensive efficiency (98.7 points per 100 possessions) and 70th for adjusted defensive efficiency (96.2 points allowed per 100).

The Florida Gators play host to the Missouri Tigers in what may turn out to be a pivotal matchup for seeding purposes in the SEC tournament. In conference play, Florida is 9-5 which puts them in third place. A half-game ahead of LSU and a game and a half ahead of Tennessee. Missouri sits at sixth place and two games behind Florida as well. Florida has won three consecutive games whereas Missouri has dropped four of its last five.

Getting Back on Track
Missouri had lost a few games it should have come away with over the last two weeks. They have been swept by Mississippi by an average margin of 14 points and lost to Georgia by 10. The Tigers also dropped to Arkansas in overtime, but Arkansas is the hottest team in the SEC at the moment. The issue seems to be the defense right now. On the season, Missouri allows 71.5 points per game. However, they have allowed 76.8 points over their last five games and they have dropped to eighth overall in defensive efficiency in conference play.
According to KenPom, the Tigers rank 41st overall in offensive efficiency. They are 110th in field goal percentage, 41st in free-throws attempted, and 49th in two-point percentage. Defensively, this is the 64th ranked unit. They are 67th in field goal percentage, 92nd in three-point percentage, 88th in two-point percentage, and 123rd in block rate.

Xavier Pinson leads the Tigers with 14 points per game while adding 3 rebounds and 3 assists. Dru Smith contributes 13.9 points, 3.6 rebounds, and 3.7 assists. Jeremiah Tilmon gives them, 12.9 points with 7.7 rebounds.

Gators are Rolling
When Keyontae Johnson went down, a lot of people counted this Florida team out. Instead, they have gone 10-5 without him and find themselves in third place in a loaded SEC. Florida has won three in a row and seven of its last nine. This offense is the third most efficient in the conference and they have the second-best field goal percentage as well.
The Gators have the 29th-most efficient offense in the country. They are 63rd in field goal percentage, 72nd in offensive rebounding, 73rd in three-point percentage, 77th in two-point percentage, and 43rd in free-throw percentage. On the defensive end, they are 31st overall. Ranking 51st in field goal percentage, 61st in turnover rate, 42nd in three-point percentage, and fourth in block rate.

Tre Mann is the only Gator who sees over 30 minutes a game. He gives them 14.7 points, 5.8 rebounds, 3.4 assists, and 1.6 steals. Colin Castleton contributes 12.9 points with 5.8 rebounds and Tyree Appleby adds 10.8 points, 3.2 rebounds, and 3.3 assists.

The Seton Hall Pirates will look to pick up a much-needed win on Wednesday night when they host the Connecticut Huskies in Big East action. Seton Hall is clinging to a spot on the bubble at 13-10 overall (10-7 Big East) after taking a bad 61-52 loss to the Butler Bulldogs last Wednesday as a 7.5-point road favorite. UConn is currently in third place in the conference at 12-6 (9-6 Big East) after an easy 80-62 win over the Marquette Golden Eagles on Saturday as a seven-point home favorite.

These teams met back on February 6 with Seton Hall winning 80-73 as a one-point favorite on the road, but UConn has still dominated the all-time series 44-19.

UConn keeps building momentum
The Huskies have finally gotten healthy in recent weeks, and are suddenly looking like a very dangerous team heading into the postseason with four wins in their past three games. UConn was in control against Marquette throughout on Saturday, as the Huskies had runs of 10-0 and 15-2 in the first half before cruising in the second with a lead that never got under 13 points.

James Bouknight led the Huskies with 24 points on an efficient 9/15 shooting from the field, while R.J. Cole added 21 points and three assists. UConn shot a healthy 51.6% from the field while only turning the ball over seven times, while Marquette was held to a mark under 40%.

"When your backcourt gives you that, and you guard, you’re hard to beat,” head coach Dan Hurley said via The UConn Blog. "We need [Bouknight] and [Cole] nightly."

UConn has been one of the best teams in college basketball against the spread at 13-4-1 and has either covered or pushed in each of its last five games dating back to a February 10 loss against Providence. Overs are an even 9-9 for the Huskies, with the Marquette game going over the betting total snapping a streak of two straight unders.

The Huskies are averaging 71.1 points per game on shooting splits of 48.5% from two and 33.8% from three. Defense has been the strength for UConn, which is 47th nationally at 64.6 points per game allowed with opponents shooting 46.4% from two and 31.2% from deep, both top 75 marks.

Bouknight has been limited to 10 games by an elbow injury, but has been one of the country's premier scorers when healthy at 20.5 points per game on 47.1% shooting from the field. Cole is having an excellent year after transferring from Howard at 12.8 points and 4.2 assists per game, while Tyrese Martin is also in double figures while leading the team in rebounding at 7.5 per contest.

Junior guard Matt Garry is the only name left on what was a crowded UConn injury report a few weeks ago, as he will miss the entire season with a knee injury.

Seton Hall falls flat on road trip
The Pirates now have no margin for error after dropping a pair of road games to two of the bottom teams in the Big East in Georgetown and Butler last week. Seton Hall managed to scratch out a 26-24 lead at halftime as Butler went scoreless for the final five minutes of the first, but was outscored 20-11 in the first 10 minutes of the second as the offense just could not get going in an ugly loss.

Jared Rhoden led the Pirates with 14 points and four rebounds, while Shavar Reynolds Jr. managed nine points and six assists in what was a miserable day for the offense. The Pirates shot just 37.9% from the field including 6/27 from three and 2/7 from the free-throw line, while Butler was 15/16 from the stripe to make the difference.

“We have a lot of work to do,” head coach Kevin Willard said via the New York Post, “but we have two good opportunities — a great UConn team who had a huge win the other night at Georgetown, and obviously a very good St. John’s team who plays great at Carnesecca — so I gotta figure it out a little bit better.”

Seton Hall is still above .500 against the spread at 12-11, but has failed to cover in each of its last four games including ugly wins over Marquette and DePaul. Overs are 11-12 for the Pirates, with three of their last four games going under the betting total.

The Pirates are putting up an average of 72.2 points per game on shooting splits of 52.3% from two and 32.5% from three. Opponents are scoring 69.4 points per game against Seton Hall while shooting 46.9% from two and 36.6% from beyond the arc, which ranks 311th in the country.

Sando Mamukelashvili has been one of the best players in the Big East with an average of 17.8 points, 7.8 rebounds and 3.1 assists per game. Rhoden has averaged 14.6 points and 6.5 rebounds per game, while Myles Cale is also in double figures scoring.

Senior guard Bryce Aiken, who averaged 15 points per game during his career at Harvard before transferring prior to this season, has been limited to 12 games by a knee injury and remains questionable. Freshman Jeff Ngandu has been unable to join the team as he remains home in Canada.

The Minnesota Golden Gophers will travel to the Bryce Jordan Center on Wednesday night to take on the Penn State Nittany Lions in a Big Ten matchup. This will be the only meeting between these two programs against each other this season. The Minnesota Golden Gophers are 11th in the Big Ten with a 13-12 record and a 6-12 conference record. They are riding a five-game losing streak after losing a road game to the Nebraska Cornhuskers 78-74 on Saturday. The Penn State Nittany Lions are 12th in the Big Ten with an 8-13 record and a 5-12 conference record. They are coming off a 73-52 loss against the Purdue Boilermakers on Friday.

These programs are very similar on both sides of the floor so it will be interesting to figure out which team will be able to go on a run here. Let’s take a deeper dive to decide where we should be placing our wagers.

Drive the Offense
The Minnesota Golden Gophers are hoping for junior guard Marcus Carr to continue leading the offense. On the season he is averaging 20 points, 3.9 rebounds, five assists, and 1.3 steals in 35.4 minutes on the court. He is shooting 40.6 percent from the floor, 33.5 percent from deep, and 80.5 percent from the charity stripe. In his last game against the Cornhuskers, Carr played 40 minutes and finished with 41 points, four rebounds, three assists, and four steals. If he can put another huge game together, it will be a solid game for Minnesota.
The Minnesota Golden Gophers have been a shaky defensive team as they are allowing 73.5 points per game this season. In their last game against the Nebraska Cornhuskers, they gave up 78 points on 24-of-70 (34.3 percent) from the floor, 8-of-30 (26.7 percent) from beyond the arc, and 24 free-throws. If they can figure out how to defend without fouling, they will be in a better spot here.

Keeping Up With The Joneses
The Nittany Lions are depending on junior guard Myreon Jones to put up numbers for them this season. He is averaging 15.4 points, 2.7 rebounds, 1.9 assists, and 1.4 steals in 30.4 minutes per game. He struggles from the floor as he is 39.9 percent from the floor, 38.8 percent from deep, and 75.3 percent from the free-throw line. In his last game against the Boilermakers, Jones played 27 minutes and finished with 11 points, a pair of rebounds, two assists, a block, and a steal. He will need to be more of a factor in this upcoming game if they want to pick up the victory here.

The Penn State Nittany Lions have been a mediocre defense this season as they are giving up 74.2 points per game. In their last game against the Purdue Boilermakers, they allowed 73 points on 27-of-52 (51.9 percent) from the floor, 7-of-19 (36.8 percent) from beyond the arc, and 17 free-throw attempts. If they can limit the amount of open shots, they should be able to compete here.
