Al Cimaglia: Pompano Park Pick 4 Analysis-$20,000 Guaranteed Pool

March 2, 2021 | By Al Cimaglia

Tonight, Pompano Park brings a 10-race card with the 0.50 Pick 4 starting in Race 6. That sequence has a $20,000 guaranteed pool and it will be my focus.

Last night, Rick Plano led the drivers with three wins. The top conditioners, with two trips to the winner's circle were Rick Plano and Michael Deters.

Comments and selections below are based on a fast track.

Race 6

4-Tempus Seelster (4-1)-Gets a new pilot after sizzling the back half in 54.3 on 2-16 to miss by a neck on a sloppy track. Gets post relief after leaving from post 7 and was 10 lengths behind at the 1st call. MacDonald should work a better trip and it's best to respect.
5-Prairie Westerngal (5/2)-Looked a bit rough in last and didn't fly off the gate in typical fashion. It could be time for a rest as maybe some aches and pains have set in. Or, it could be looking bumpy on the track may had something to do with a late shoe change before the race. I'll lean towards going back to the barn for a shoe change that mattered most.
6-Crisp Mane (3-1)-Like #4 just missed in last on a sloppy track. It should be noted the off-track record for this mare is only 1 for 11. Draws better than in the last couple of starts and has been too consistent to leave off the ticket.

Race 7

2-Stick With Me Kid (8-1)-Did take a picture at this level on 2-15 and could take advantage of this post draw. Does its best work racing near the top of the stack and that can happen here. Could get the jump on the program chalks and trip out at a nice price.
6-Boinganator (5/2)-Wallis steers his own, #8 and Hennessey takes the lines. Fits well with this group and did win at this level on 2-1. Morning line chalk is in sharp form so it's best to not overlook.
8-The Lionking As (6-1)-Beat Open II company on 1-11 from post 7 but was able to cross over and get on the engine. Deserves respect on the drop but not sure getting the top will be as easy tonight. Should offer a square price and will need a sharp steer.

Race 8

5-Arrhythmogenic (7-1)-Draws well, has been facing better and may leave and find a close-up seat. So will use and look for some juice to punch up the Pick 4 payout.
6-Landry Seelster (2-1)-This mare could be on the point or in the pocket after the first turn. Didn't finish off the last mile but may not have seen Miller coming up the pylons to take top honors.
7-Don't Chip Me (5/2)-Chip finished 2nd five straight times and didn't record a win on Lasix but that all ended with a score on 2-23. Miller found a way to make this mare more determined as he kept her off the lead, saved ground and used one strong brush to surge past at the wire. That same script could play out tonight.

Race 9

2-Lady Driver (9/2)-Drops in for a tag and gets a new pilot who has had success in the past. Hennessey returns, he could be aggressive and get the top. If this mare gets too much respect and walks to the half it could be time for the 1st win of 2021.
4-Wild Nite Tina (3-1)-Tina needs a trip and may challenge #2 for the top. If the first quarter isn't too taxing Chindano may have enough horse left to seal the deal. Seven-year-old likes the Pomp hitting the board in 7 of 10 starts with 3 pictures.

0.50 Pick 4

4,5,6/2,6,8/5,6,7/2,4
Total Bet=$27

Brian W. Spencer's Daily Picks

Delta Downs - Race #2
Picks Notes
#8 Skylas Gold The shorter the better for this one who has done some good work at this trip in the past. He draws well to avoid any early traffic trouble, and he has plenty of room to bounce back while shortening up for top connections.
#2 Thatsafactjack He's racing off the layoff here, but that's not much of a concern at this 5/16m trip. He brings a sharp work with him to this, and he seems like one of the logical ones.
#7 Pretty Britches She classes up well with these and brings good form, but there might be a couple in here better suited to this abbreviated trip, including her top choice stablemate.
Race Summary Skylas Gold has been tough at short trips like this in the past, and she should appreciate the cutback after a couple of late fading tries around one turn.

Delta Downs - Race #4
Picks Notes
#2 Wildabout Audrey Think there's a small chance she winds up a playable price at post time with See Sassy Run likely to take some cash. While this one is getting a reputation for settling for underneath slices, she isn't meeting a deep field.
#6 See Sassy Run She ran a couple of big races out of the Asmussen barn, and she earned the hike off those two commanding wins. She'll need to hold form for the new team, and I worry that she'll get overbet as a logical alternative to the top choice.
#5 Duepeg She has been sharing with this kind for several races now, and another reliable effort would put her in the mix for another piece, but she probably needs a misfire from at least one of the two main players here.
Race Summary Wildabout Audrey and See Sassy Run should be tough to get past in this bunch, but Wildabout Audrey is proven at the level, and See Sassy Run is going to have to hold form for four weeks while leaving the Asmussen barn.

Delta Downs - Race #10
Picks Notes
#10 Color Fast He'll race as a first-time gelding while adding blinkers for the new barn, and though he was short at 3/5 in the debut, he was overbet that day while racing for Asmussen. Think there are enough reasons this guy can improve today.
#1 Marvins Gold He only chased briefly with better last time out, and he's worth a look at this kind of level with the local company. With the right kind of forward trip, he doesn't seem impossible. I'd want him on any tickets ending here.
#2 Underdog I wouldn't want too short a price here while doubling the price, but that last one is very competitive with these, and he's tough here if that's his new baseline effort without blinkers.
Race Summary Tough race with some fun options. Color Fast has some upside with just the one start under his belt, and the hope is he'll step forward here while racing with blinkers after being gelded. #9 Father Goose another with a chance, but the price probably won't be appealing while hoping for a big form reversal on the drop.

Frank Carulli's Daily Picks

Dover Downs - Race #9
Picks Notes
#3 BIG EXPENSE Gathered momentum on final turn but had nowhere to go in lane as fave.
#5 JACKIE'S JIM Rallied from far back to spring 24-1 upset in local debut, barn keeps them sharp.
#2 SPLITSVILLE Second to top one when they last met, but missed a week sick.
Race Summary Big Expense inched up to narrow a ground-saving gap on the final turn, but lacked room through the stretch as the wide ralliers prevailed. He can turn the tables on several of the same rivals and win for the 30th time.

Pompano Park - Race #2
Picks Notes
#2 LUCKY SEVENS -- Lucky to re #2 LUCKY SEVENS -- Lucky to remain eligible for this spot after win 5 days ago.
#3 KEYSTONE BLADE -- Hung arou #3 KEYSTONE BLADE -- Hung around for blanket finish after first-over trip from post 8.
#5 DELI-CRAZE -- Took serious #5 DELI-CRAZE -- Took serious money, finished second off pocket trip.
Race Summary Lucky Sevens ran away to an upset victory in a tougher condition last Thursday and, in doing so, remained eligible for this softer condition. No reason to think he can't repeat with another favorable starting spot. Play a 2 with 3,5 with ALL trifecta.

Northfield Park - Race #9
Picks Notes
#4 YANKEES IMAGE Burned money to remain winless since 2020, better price worth it.
#1 HITITOUTOFTHEPARK Good tightener, can carry speed a long way from the rail.
#5 TIME OUTA JAIL Rallied for third behind odds-on winner at The Meadows.
Race Summary Yankees Image sustained a rally in the final quarter mile, settled for second as the 1-to-9 favorite and continued strong on the gallop out. He can make amends to his loyal backers on the class hike. Play 4-1 and 4-5 exactas.

Jerry Shottenkirk's Daily Picks

Mahoning Valley - Race #4
Picks Notes
#2 Mobil Solution Ran evenly last time after two straight wins over this track; usually a force vs. Ohio-breds.
#3 Tico Thunder Cruised to an easy win in the mud last time out and has taken two of his last three; veteran has been in good form since early fall.
#4 Mo Dont No Hasn't won since August but that taken on some strong company; he battled last out before weakening for second last out.
Race Summary Mobil Solution lacked a big finish last time but has races on his form that would make him tough here.

Mahoning Valley - Race #6
Picks Notes
#2 Enjoy Baseball Was up in time two races back and then was just took far back early last time; can be a factor with a clean trip.
#7 Kitchi Does his best on the front end and will do all he can to be in that position; capable of a big effort.
#1 Winking At Thedude Had a tough, draining win last time and he would have to be special to win right back off that one. He's been a model of consistent for quite some time and is the best of the coupled entry.
Race Summary Enjoy Baseball gets a good pace in front of him and can make a run, provided he can weave through traffic this time. His best run can make him a strong factor.

Mahoning Valley - Race #7
Picks Notes
#2 Hardly Swayed Gave way early in the Smarty Jones at Oaklawn and can resume the good form he had when he shipped to Arkansas. Can be troublesome here.
#3 Williston Way Was outrun at Sa Houston last out but was second here two back; he won a race at Keeneland, and that alone gives him the credentials to be very tough here.
#6 Centrist Was an even fourth last out and can stay close enough to provide some pressure; chance to hang in for a piece of the gimmicks.
Race Summary Hardly Swayed tried the toughs at Oaklawn last out and is back to where he won two straight prior to that trip. Strong player on the front end.
