Possibility of expanded playoffs
MLB and union are re-engaging on the possibility of expanded playoffs for this season.
Has to be done before first pitch 25 hours from now, but there seems to be optimism. Hope was to go from 10 playoff teams to 16. Season starts in just over 24 hours, one team doesn’t have a home ballpark and the league doesn’t know if they wanna increase the playoffs by 60% or not. What have they been doing for the last month? Answer ... Figuring out how to nickel and dime every aspect of this format while worrying about BLM and wearing masks. This could also wreak havoc on some of those Yes/No to make the playoffs future bets .....

Why not? The season is already screwed up. Might as well make it more interesting. I get the feeling we are going to see some teams we normally do not see in the playoffs.

There are two sides to it ...
For the owners, it means more money ... but would already water down a short season. And ... MLB saw that the NFL said fans may come to games with masks. The owners yesterday were hopeful for fans this season. They are banking on fans later, so more playoff games means more games with the possibly of fans.

With 16-team playoff format:
All second-place teams in the six divisions qualify. Then the 7th and 8th teams will be chosen by best record among other teams.

Latest ...
Every first- and second-place team in Major League Baseball will make the playoffs in 2020. The two teams in each league with the best record outside of those six will round out the playoff field. Altogether, there will be 16 teams in the 2020 MLB postseason. Seeds 1-3 will go to the division winners based on record. Seeds 4-6 will go to the runners-up based on record. Seeds 7 and 8 will be based on record. Thus, there is a possibility the third-best division winner actually plays a worse team than the two best division winners.
