The Sox have played better of late, although it must be considered that the last two wins have come against a minor league team.
The only reason that I am SLIGHTLY more optimistic is that over the last week and a half the Yankees have shown that they are not as invincible as I previously thought.
I still think though that they will win the Division with room to spare.
Obtaining Edward Encarnacion would help any team, the problem being though that he doesn't pitch, the area which is of most concern at this point.

Nice win for Sox last night as well as great pitching and especially against such a worthy team.
Lets not forget though that they swept Tampa earlier this season only to retreat back to their losing ways shortly thereafter.
It would be nice if Sox could snag one more game in this series but certainly no predictions here that they will.

The bottom line is that I come away from this series with the Twins with an overall better feeling about the Sox and with a feeling that the Twins while very much improved over last season, are not a legitimate contender to win the WS and in fact may have been intimidated by their big brother sparring partners in Ft. Myers.

This four game series between Yankees and Astros starting tonight is intriguing as Yankees have won five in a row and Astros have lost four in a row.
Imo without a doubt both of these teams have the best and equal shots to represent AL in WS this season.
The outcome of this series might be telling.
I think that Yankees might win this series because of hf advantage and the way the teams have been playing of late.
However it wouldn't be shocking either if Houston suddenly got hot and took the series.
Or how about just a good old plain split of the series!

Yesterday was mirror image of Friday night in that the Sox and BP pissed away yesterday's game whereas on Friday they came from behind and won on a walkoff.
Also, I am more convinced than ever that Yankees are clearly and should be the favorite the favorite to win the WS this year.
I am happy to see Urshela doing so well and root for him except when he plays against the Sox as he is from my wife's hometown of Cartagena in Colombia.
Also I naturally root for Mike Yastrzemski most of the time, but not all as his two out homerun with a man on base last night in the ninth inning cost me my UNDER bet in that game.
Methinks grandpa should have a chat with the boy to tell him not to hit meaningless homeruns in the future which cost Sox diehards and a huge father of his grandpa like myself their bet.

from previous post"diehards and a huge father of his grandpa like myself their bet."

my bad-this should read huge follower rather than father.
If I or anyone else was the father of Yaz Sr, they would be around 110 years old! lol
ps More importantly, if Sox are to have any chance of making the playoffs, they must improv vastly over their current 500 record.

Games like today's putrid no show, the BP disaster yesterday at home to the lowly Blue Jays and their now I believe under 500 record at home are why most Sox fans including myself are skeptical of their chances to even make the playoffs this year!

There is just something about this year's team which just keeps resurfacing, namely the inability to follow through on what should be momentum.
The latest episode was taking two of three from the first place Twins on the road earlier in the week and rising a nice winning streak leading up to that.
So what happens-they stage a great comeback on Friday and win the game on a walk off homerun on Friday night by Vazquez and then get off to a 6-0 on Saturday.
Then just like that "deflategate" hits, they lose the Saturday game when the BP implodes and then they take the day off today and lose.
Good teams follow through on the Friday night comeback, don't blow a 6-0 lead on Saturday and finish off the lowly Jays on Sunday.
I don't know if they are just too cocky, unfocused, distracted or what, but this repetitive inconsistency which has plagued the team all season is not pretty and must change and especially at home with their relatively speaking dismal record or else it is going to be a long and frustrating summer with little to show for it except for these little meaningless winning streaks along the way which quickly fizzle out.

This adds on to previous post:

The good news is if you want to call it that these little surges of the team along the way keep our hopes up as the season progresses into summer, which is better than just completely falling apart at the seems.
The bad news however is that at least for now based on how things have unwound up until now is that it appears for the most part to be false hope and possibly even delays doing something about the obvious deficiencies with the team.
Thus at least for me I am torn between the two different sets of feelings.
On the one hand I want to believe that the Sox are on it so to speak during the summer and enjoy the games and hope that they make the playoffs, but on the other, I don't want to allow my short term emotions mask the fact that there are glaring weaknesses on this team most notably in the BP and lack of depth for the entire team and that the minor league system which is near the bottom is in bad need of repair for this season and more importantly for future seasons if this team is going to be a consistent contender.

imo it is at least within the realm of possibility that Cora has become too cozy/chummy with the players, and because of this on some level, they just might be too relaxed and not giving the extra effort or being focused enough to win consistently.
I just don't get the feeling so far that unlike last year the intensity level is all that consistently high as evidenced by some of the unexpected and disappointing losses at home to so-so or worse teams.
ps There are obviously other problems also most notably with the BP and a fall off from Mookie and JD from last season even, though Bogaerts and Devers and even Vazquez have helped a bit offensively in this regard.

The politically correct thing would be for the Sox and Yankees to split those two games in London this weekend and for both games to be hard fought.
However if anyone is going to sweep that series, imo it will be the Yankees with only a remote chance of the Sox accomplishing it.
All I can say as a Sox fan is that if the pitching isn't there for the Sox, they could get walloped badly!!

The Sox have a ball-buster of a schedule beginning in July with lots of games against the Yankees and Rays as well as one series with the Dodgers at Fenway
I will be particularly interested in that series against LA as an indication as to how much the Sox have fallen and the Dodgers have risen since they last met in the WS.
The good thing about all of this is that it should or at lest could give DD and all Sox fans a good indication as to what to do by Trading Deadline.

The Red Sox flew to the London Series on one of the most luxurious planes in the world - CBSSports.com

I wonder if the Sox had to pay a "luxury tax" on this.

Here are some interesting tidbits for this Sox and Yankees series.
I don't usually bet on Sox games, but in this case I may bet the over in game one anyways with Porcello pitching(11).
Imo in this ballpark in this matchup the Yankees might put the total over by themselves.

My crystal ball says Yankees 11 and Sox 5 for today's game.
The good news is that it hasn't been used in a while and may be rusty or in need of a tuneup.

If Porcello makes it out of the fourth inning, I will be surprised, out of the fifth, astounded.
This assumes of course that the Sox don't have a significant lead going into those innings, which changes everything.

I apologize for being so "optimistic" as to how long Porcello would last.

Talk about firsts-this is the first and probably only time I will ever win an OVER of 11 1/2 runs in the first inning. lol

If nothing else, fans over there are seeing an exhibition of slow pitch softball in the US.

Well at the very least even though the game isn't close, fans in attendance are seeing a lot of offense unlike their boring up and down the field where nothing usually happens 1-0 and 2-1 soccer games. lol

The Yankees must think they are playing the likes of Baltimore and KC by pitching someone making his first start today with lousy credentials in this game being watched by so many people around he world.
If (and a big if) the Sox have any pride and dignity remaining, they should feel insulted and get down to business and show it!
I wouldn't bet either away as to how the Sox will respond.
ps They must have heard me-3-0 Sox-no guarantee that they win though. lol

Unlike yesterday the Brits are getting a better idea as to a more normal flow of a MLB game.

All I can say is that a few months ago, I had to make a choice as to where to go in early to mid July on vacation. as I do every year around this time.
The choices for me were to go to Toronto to follow the Sox or to Las Vegas.
Thank God I opted for Las Vegas rather than to go to Toronto to watch two also-ran teams who are going nowhere play some meaningless games.
This was not really difficult choice at all as I stated very clearly BEFORE the season began that I thought it was going to be a mediocre season at best for Sox, and that the chances were minimal that they would not repeat and extremely unlikely that they would even make it to the WS.
If that constitutes being a "pink hat," well then lets just say that my definition is vastly different. lol
