MAC game...

164 Kent State ML 135 I’m picking my Flashes for a win at home against the Miami Redhawks this Saturday..

Miami is coming off an impressive win last week against Northern Illinois The Flashes were a no show defensively last week against Ohio U and gave up 45 points in the process…I not impressed with the Miami offense …(Miami has avg. 155 yard in the air and 106 on the ground……and have averaged 21.7 points per game…. hoping that the Flashes respond at home after a terrible defensive showing last week against the Bobcats…The Golden Flashes have averaged 171rushing yards a game so hopefully they can get the defensive side of the ball going. Both teams come in 3-4 and 2-1 in MAC conference. I believe if Kent wants to make something of their season they bounce back and show up and win this home game!

Adding

Taking 190 Pittsburgh -5.5 vs Miami

Miami has been up and down and less consistent on offense all season. They’ve been held to 21 points or less in four games and have only scored over 25 points twice.

That has put even more pressure on the passing game and the Hurricanes have been so/so there. The last two games they have not passed for more than 200 yards.

The Pitt Panthers’ victory over Syracuse this past weekend gave the team its fourth straight win. The Cats defense has a great pass rush and is getting to the opposing QB! Miami's offensive line has had trouble protecting the QB that puts more pressure on the offense. The Pittsburgh defense has 36 sacks on the season.

The Panthers were defeated last year by the Miami H squad 24-3..I think coaches remember the revenge factor more than the turnover in players. But I like Pat Narduzzi defense in this game.

Need ur help - I see that Nelson is out for Akron do u know anything about the backup and I see that Myers may be out for Buffalo he is a less than 50% passer anyway but do u know anything about the backup if Myers can't play

And here is a game I was looking at VIRGINIA -3.5 now Pass is out for Louisville and I know the backup played against a way better defense last week than Virginia will throw at him but Louisville defense sucks I was thinking this was a trap I thought the line would be higher what are ur thoughts

Thx

I like the picks. I quoted you extensively. hoopmagic5 has a nice write-up. Easy to read and understand.

I like the idea of betting a team that lost last week and the opponents are coming off of a big win.

Scott:

My thoughts on The Zips they have lost 12 straight.. Bad team! I don’t know how they will score.

I more worried about NI finding motivation to cover 24 pts. (Buffalo had the same problem but it was at Akron, Zip QB fumbled twice for two defensive TD’s or I don’t get the cover). NI coming off tuff loss…..this is homecoming for them and they still have outside chance at bowl eligibliity

Nelson is out….a lot of problems in Zip land right now..

Some notes I took>>>

The first start at quarterback against Buffalo for the University of Akron’s Zach Gibson wasn’t one he’s likely to remember fondly.

The 6-foot-3, 210-pound freshman had several costly turnovers and couldn’t help the Zips muster enough offense in a 21-0 Mid-American Conference loss to Buffalo at InfoCision Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

UA’s regular starter, Kato Nelson, received a two-game suspension this week for a violation of team rules, said a team spokeswoman, and coach Tom Arth elevated Gibson from third on the depth chart.

Gibson, from Alpharetta, Ga., enjoyed some success in a second-half appearance against the University of Massachusetts earlier this season. However, he endured a rough afternoon for the Zips (0-7, 0-3), completing 22-of-39 passes for 193 yards with an interception, and two of his fumbles accounted for two of the three touchdowns scored by the Bulls (3-4, 1-2).

The Zips generated 196 yards on offense, including three yards rushing.
The Zips had just 66 yards of total offense and trailed 7-0 at halftime. Gibson was done no favors by an offensive line that bowed to pressure on more than a few occasions, some of them when the Bulls rushed just four.

My play in this game will be #194 NIU -13.5 first half play….

My Thoughts on Virginia…..I have them winning by 10 points

*Perkins for the Cavs should run all over this LV defense

*The Cards are shuffling QB all the time…no timing in offense

*Cards Defense is really bad…giving up 33.4 a game

The only negative I could find
UVA's record in road and neutral games during Mendenhall's tenure is 7-15.

*The line is -3.5 ….that is a red flag!!!! Sorry Scott I can’t justify the line!

IMO I think C Mich should be the fav here vs Buff they have their QB now and they just like to cover the spread I think I will stay away from Virginia line should be higher also if N Illinois can score 35 I think they cover just can't see Akron getting more than 10

Similar to your NI -23 is APP -26 o/u 52. Two ago LJJU asked: "Why is NI -21 not free money?" I wrote a lengthy article about NI. I dealt with the Allums in their NE Ill Siberian Husky club with our interactions with the Wis club. I'll not recap but to say the Alums may bet enough on the team to move the market a point or 2. In the game, opponents scored an FG and NI scored 23. Dog +21 was the winner.

Roma advised, "in my opinion, betting favorites on large spreads aren't good bets over a large sample; there is more long term value in taking the under in games like NI." After all, you are calling the Zips to get 10 or 3 but maybe NI sits out the 2H testing 3rd string. If you bet under 52 it is likely a winning bet. There are exceptions. It is still called gambling, not using the bookie as your ATM. The very next game OSU ran over their opponent scoring 53 on a 51 under.

I took your #194 NIU -13.5 points and Pitt , Flashes and Appalachian State at South Alabama under 52.
for letting me spout off in your thread.

Scott you read my mind. This is my why I agree. Been thinking about this for 2 days:

Ok I had this itch and I’m can’t let it go…..I’m going to play:

#129 Central Michigan +3(bought .5)

We always look at both sides of the ball O/D and stats that all very important…but the big “why” for me is Chips coach Jim McElwain. He has a wealth of experience and has taken this 1-11 cellar dweller and put them in the catbird seat in this MAC division. It was their third-straight win and fifth overall this season. Granted the Chips have been good at home and secured their first road win last week against BG…they are on the road in back to back games….The Chips have a Defense yielding just 113 ypg rushing and CMU RB Ward has rushed for 130+ yds. in 3 straight games
Buffalo’s shutout win over Akron was fueled by big defensive plays and the absence of Akron starting QB Kato Nelson with Kato this was a winnable game for the lowly Zips….I know Buffalo will play better at home. Buffalo sad kicking performance lately plays into it too missing two makeable FG’s against the Zips! The Chips had over 550 yards against BG (Graduate transfer quarterback Quinten Dormady finished 22 of 36 for 295 yards, one touchdown and one interception in his second game back from a knee injury, which marks the fourth-straight game where the offense accounted for more than 425 yards. Western Michigan (437), Eastern Michigan (587) and New Mexico State (486) were the others.

Central Michigan is headed in the right direction and I believe with coach McElwain telling them: "Every game now actually has a little meaning. There's something to it."
I believe the coaching experience and the Hungry Chips get it done!
