The contract's average annual value of $13.1M is less than the $14.5M for the franchise tag he refused in 2018

Bell willing to go to the Jets and Brown happy to be a Raider. What does that say about their former team?

Strange how the night moves;
With autumn closing in"

Joe Banner

@JoeBanner13
In Steelers proposal to Bell at the end of 19 season he would’ve pocketed 33M. In deal he got he will be at 14.5. Behind by almost $20M. This may be the worst contract decision we have ever seen a player make, and it should’ve been obvious to him and his agent.

After turning down a five-year, $70 million offer from the Steelers in 2018 and then missing out on $14.5 million in 2018 franchise-tag salary, Bell signed a four-year, $52.5 million deal with the New York Jets on Wednesday.

That's less money per year than Devin Funchess will make in 2019 ($13 million) under his new deal with the Colts.

In the Steelers offer, Bell would have been paid $33 million over the first two seasons of his contract. As Joe Banner pointed out, in his new contract with the Jets, he'll have been paid $14.5 million by the end of the 2019 season.
While many fans on Twitter defended Bell's actions, saying he wasn't guaranteed enough money by the Steelers, his new deal with the Jets has $35 million guaranteed while the Steelers offer reportedly had $33 million in guarantees.

So he sat out a season and missed out on $14.5 million and only has an extra $2 million in guarantees to show for it.
Financially speaking, this is arguably one of the biggest mistakes we've seen out of a player (and his agent). While he could have suffered a catastrophic injury and lost the rest of his career last season, Bell's market value in free agency shows the Steelers offered a fair contract to him last year

Yea it does seem pretty bad for him, honestly don't know what him or his agent were thinking.

But not a bad deal for the Jets!

Lev Bell apparently has heard enough criticism of his absence from the JetsÂ’ voluntary offseason program.

“When it’s time for me to play football,” Bell answered. “I got to stick to the formula that I know works for me to be the best player I can be. Im not just tryna win football games, I want a ring! [B]I/B] want to desperately show everybody what I can . . . REALLY do. I’ll take the heat right now, everybody will forget about that once January comes around.”

Le'Veon Bell could be traded sometime this offseason.

In the aftermath of the the New York Jets firing GM Mike Maccagnan as well as VP of player personnel Brian Heimerdinger on Wednesday, longtime NFL reporter John Clayton believes that the team may trade Bell before the start of the 2019 season.

"If there's a suitor, I could absolutely see the Jets trading him before the start of the season," Clayton said, via Andrew Fillipponi of 93.7 The Fan.

Gase absolutely did not want to sign Le’Veon Bell, per sources," Mehta reported on Wednesday. "In fact, he made it clear that he didn’t want to spend a lot of money on any running back."
