The NBA Summer League's popularity and significance rise every year, and in 2018, there won't be any shortage of star prospects or storylines.

For the first time, all 30 teams will participate in Las Vegas in the MGM Resorts from July 6-17. But there will also be two separates leagues running before it from July 2-5, one in Sacramento and the other in Utah.

As a Sixers fan, I'm excited to see how Zhaire Smith will perform.

Before the Sixers got him last year, I thought he was going to be the steal of the draft. Just like every Sixers rookie, he got hurt and missed most of his rookie season.

I'm a hoops junkie, so I plan on watching some of the Summer League. I watched most of last night's Heat/Laker game and came away impressed with Miami's first round pick Tyler Herro, he shot 5/10 from three and plays with a bit of swagger, Now it's just one game so I'm not gonna go crazy over him, but I liked what I saw

Every MGM Resorts NBA Summer League game will air live on television for the second straight year, with ESPN networks and NBA TV combining to televise a record number of games.

Williamson, the No. 1 pick in NBA Draft 2019 presented by State Farm, returns on Saturday, July 6 to face Rui Hachimura and the Washington Wizards at 10 p.m. ET on ESPN. Hachimura became the first Japanese-born player selected in the first round by an NBA team when the Wizards picked him ninth in NBA Draft 2019 presented by State Farm.

MGM Resorts NBA Summer League 2019, which features all 30 NBA teams and the Chinese and Croatian National Teams, will tip off with 10 games on July 5 and continue through Monday, July 15 at the Thomas & Mack Center and Cox Pavilion on the campus of the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. The first day of action will include five games on NBA TV and a tripleheader on ESPN.

The event opens with all 32 teams playing four preliminary games each. The top eight teams are then seeded in a tournament, which culminates with a Championship Game on July 15 at 9 p.m. ET on ESPN2. Teams that do not qualify for the tournament will each play a consolation game. Every team will play at least five games and as many as seven at MGM Resorts NBA Summer League.

Last year’s event, won by the Portland Trail Blazers, set records for total attendance, combined viewership across ESPN and NBA TV, and traffic to the NBA’s social and digital platforms, in addition to matching the single-day attendance record.

For the third consecutive year, ESPN will present every game from Las Vegas via the ESPN App, along with 43 games on its linear television networks (ESPN, ESPN2 and ESPNU).

NBA TV, co-managed by the NBA and Turner Sports, will air a record 40 games, beginning with the MGM Resorts NBA Summer League opener when the Croatian National Team, making its event debut, squares off against the Detroit Pistons on July 5 at 3 p.m. ET. NBA TV’s coverage of Day 1 will also feature a 5 p.m. ET game between the Minnesota Timberwolves and the Cleveland Cavaliers, who selected Darius Garland with the fifth pick in NBA Draft 2019 presented by State Farm.

The Trail Blazers will begin defense of their MGM Resorts NBA Summer League title against the Pistons on July 6 at 3:30 p.m. ET on ESPNU. Later that day, the Atlanta Hawks, who selected Cam Reddish the 10th pick in NBA Draft 2019 presented by State Farm, will play the Milwaukee Bucks at 5 p.m. ET on NBA TV.

Knicks favored to win Vegas Summer League title

The New York Knicks are the favorites to win the championship -- the Las Vegas Summer League championship.

The Las Vegas Summer League tips off Friday with a 10-game slate, highlighted by a matchup between the New Orleans Pelicans and the Knicks (9:30 p.m., ESPN).

No. 1 overall NBA draft pick Zion Williamson plays for the Pelicans, while Duke teammate RJ Barrett was the third overall selection by the Knicks.

The Knicks, at 8-1, are the favorites to win the league at Caesars Sportsbook. The Portland Trail Blazers are next at 10-1, followed by the Pelicans and San Antonio Spurs, who are each 14-1.

Las Vegas sportsbooks indicated that betting interest on Summer League is increasing but remains comparatively light. Alan Berg, senior oddsmaker for Caesars, compared the amount wagered on a Summer League game to how much is bet on a WNBA game.

"It's pretty much bet on by sharper players than the public," Berg said. "It's the guys that are moving numbers that are trying to bet with us on this stuff."

All 30 NBA franchises and international teams from China and Croatia will take part in the Las Vegas Summer League, which is capped off by an eight-team, single-elimination tournament. The championship game will take place July 15.

The Philadelphia 76ers, Orlando Magic and Washington Wizards are 15-1 to win the league at Caesars, followed by the Boston Celtics and Charlotte Hornets, which are each 18-1. Team China, at 100-1, is the biggest longshot on the board.

"It crosses the MLB All-Star break, where it's basically the premier event during those few days," said Jeff Sherman, NBA oddsmaker at the SuperBook at Westgate Las Vegas. "It's definitely the right time of year to attract to action."

While other leagues have expressed worry about wagering on exhibition and preseason events, the NBA does not view betting on summer league to be a top concern. Betting limits are generally small -- $500 to $1,000 at some books -- and the overall amount wagered on the games is low.

They got this right. MLB All-star break is a brutal time of year for a sports fan.

Boston beats Philly and the ESPN highlights are all about who? Yup, Tacko Fall

He only played 10 mins but he had 6 points, 4 rebounds and 1 block. More importantly he had the 2nd best +/- in the game. Boston was +18 with Tacko on the floor. His presence on the defensive end is fun to watch. It really gets in the head of opponents.

I watched the whole game, Tacko is already a fan favorite, the crowd cheered every time he touched the ball, it's amazing how tall he is, I mean he stands next to guys who are 6'8, 6'9, and he towers over them, he played well, he's a bit more mobile than I gave him credit for. The two guys that impressed me were Carsen Edwards and Grant Williams, Edwards is a flat out shooter, if he has just enough space to get his shot off, he's letting it fly, he's one of those guys that if he misses 10 in a row, he thinks the 11th is going in, a very confident shooter, I think he can make an impact as an instant offense guy coming off the bench, and Grant Williams, undersized though he is, is a baller, he's got better range on his shot than I thought, I think he'll be a solid bench player.

Tacko gets the ball, turns and dunks. Guy doesn't even look like he needs to leave the floor to do it. Can he defend the 3? Probably not well but it is so funny watching other teams fear entering the lane when he is in the game. They simply do not know what to do with him. Being a fan favorite was a given. I thought Edwards and Williams were good. Get Yabusele off the fuckin court!

On the Philly side I was impressed by Thybulle, I think Boston might end up regretting drafting him then trading him, in college he was a lock down defender, but he showed some offense last night making several three's, I didn't think he was as good a shooter as he showed, granted it's only one game, but I think this kid has a long career ahead of him

I remember when Yabu was drafted he was compared to a poor man's Draymond Green, Bill Simmons used to call him "French Draymond", but he hasn't really developed, granted his career is only two years old and it's not like he gets a ton of minutes, so it's a bit unfair to criticize him, but there's really nothing he does well on the court, there isn't one skill that he excels at, plus he never looks like he's in great shape. His spot on the roster isn't guaranteed imo, I wouldn't be surprised if he's not on the team when the season starts. If Tacko shows well during the Summer, it's possible he could take Yabu's spot, if that happens I'll give you credit

I watched the entire Celtics/Cavs game and came away impressed with several players. I really like what I'm seeing from Robert Williams, I think he'll have a bigger role on the team than he had last year, the more I see of Tacko, the more impressed I am, he has better footwork than I originally thought, there's been some talk he might make the opening day roster, but I think he'd be better off playing in the G League where he could get steady minutes to develop his game, as opposed to sitting on the end of the Celtics bench and not getting much paying time. I also think Carsen Edwards will not only make the team, but get minutes as an instant offense guy off the bench, I also like what I'm seeing out of Grant Williams, he's undersized, but the kid can play, he has a high basketball IQ, easy kid to root for. Yabu didn't play well again, I think his spot on the team is very much in doubt.

That shouldn't be too hard. You had a bigger role on the team than he did last year.

This is what I mean by Williams having a high basketball IQ, a very good article illustrating how smart he is on the floorhttps://www.celticsblog.com/2019/7/9/20687250/the-brilliance-of-grant-williams-in-42-seconds-boston-celtics-summer-league

Through 2 Summer League games Grant Williams has played 39 minutes, the Celtics are +41 in those minutes, he's sat for 41 minutes, the Celtics are -3 in those minutes. He's like Al Horford, in that his numbers don't tell the story of how impactful he is on the floor, you have to really watch him play to appreciate how good he is, the two clips in the above link show what I mean
