Karolina Kowalkiewicz has confirmed that she fought the majority of her UFC on ESPN+ 26 bout against Yan Xiaonan with a serious facial injury.

Kowalkiewicz was seemingly compromised from the early stages of the first round in the strawweight matchup when Xiaonan landed a blow that caused some swelling and had Kowalkiewicz protecting her right eye to an alarming degree.

There was a moment after the opening frame where the cageside doctor questioned Kowalkiewicz, but ultimately the fight continued, and Xiaonan cruised to a unanimous decision. Kowalkiewicz gutted out the injury until the final bell, but the day-after report confirmed she was dealing with a significant handicap.

“(For the) first (time) in my life after (a) fight, I cannot say I am OK,” Kowalkiewicz said Sunday on her Instagram Stories. “In the beginning of (the) first round, I have (a) broken small bone. I couldn’t see nothing. My vision was double and everything was in the fog.”,

Kowalkiewicz said she was given some immediate treatment in a local hospital after the fight, which took place at Spark Arena in Auckland, New Zealand. Further examination is needed, she said. While surgery is required, a determination must be made of whether it will take place in Auckland or in her native Poland.

“After (the) fight, I spent all day in (the) hospital. Today, I’m going to (a) specialist and they (will) make (a) decision,” Kowalkiewicz said. “I need (an) operation. I’m waiting for the decision here, or I’ll go back to Poland and make this operation in Poland. But doctors say I have to stay here because flying with this eye is very dangerous.”

The loss to Xiaonan pushed Kowalkiewicz’s losing skid to four consecutive fights. She hasn’t won since April 2018, and at 34, it remains to be seen what the future holds for the former UFC title challenger.

UFC is really going with the "what if we just PRETEND Aldo won his last fight" matchmaking.

This might be the worst one of the modern era.

No way in hell does Aldo doesn’t deserve this shot over Yan or Aljo.

In 26 years of existence, the UFC gave one fighter a title shot off back-to-back losses.

Now it’s happening twice in 63 days with Jose Aldo and Yoel Romero.

Dominick Reyes is in Vegas this week, to visit the UFC Performance Institute.

No injuries, but legs still a little beat up from that title fight in Houston.

He's anxious to be 100% and be ready for any date the UFC offers on a Jon Jones rematch.

The champion’s June 6 title defense against Joanne Calderwood at UFC 251 will go down in Perth, Australia.

UFC 251 will mark the UFC’s first visit to Australia in 2020. It’s also the second time the octagon touches down in the Western Australia locale: UFC 221 took place in February 2018 in the same building and was headlined by Yoel Romero’s victory over Luke Rockhold.

The UFC announced Thursday via social media that undefeated Russian bantamweight Umar Nurmagomedov (12-0) has been signed to the promotion.

Umar is the cousin of UFC lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov.

Per the announcement, Nurmagomedov’s debut is being targeted for UFC 249, though an opponent is yet to be named. This will not be Nurmagomedov’s first time competing for a North American promotion as he made a pair of appearances for the Professional Fighters League.

In his most recent fight at Gorilla Fighting Championship 20, Nurmagomedov defeated Braian Gonzalez in the first round via rear-naked choke submission.

The state of Saturday’s vacant flyweight title fight has taken a major change after Deiveson Figueiredo missed weight for the UFC on ESPN+ 27 main event.

Figueiredo was the final fighter to step on the scale at Friday’s official weigh-in, and he came in 2.5 pounds over the required 125-pound limit for his planned championship bout with Joseph Benavidez, which headlines UFC on ESPN+ 27.

After the miss, Figueiredo was granted an additional hour to cut weight. He did not use it, however, and as a result had to forfeit 30 percent of his purse to Benavidez and the Brazilian is now no longer eligible to win the UFC belt.

The belt will be on the line for Benavidez only. A win by Figueiredo would not award him the title and would keep the belt, vacated by Henry Cejudo late in 2019, still vacant.

Also ...

Grant Dawson (149.5)* vs. Darrick Minner (145.5)

*Dawson missed featherweight limit by 3.5 pounds; fined 30 percent purse.
