UFC Vegas 31

UFC APEX
Saturday, July 17

One I like enough to share ...

Miesha Tate -141

She will be making her return to the octagon after retiring nearly five years ago at UFC 205.

I do not believe in ring rust and numbers back it up. Staying somewhat relevant (2013) a sample from more than (60) year-plus layoffs:

Year-plus layoffs: 35-26 (3 NC)

3-5 year layoffs and beyond: 11-4 (1 NC)

4 or 5 year layoffs and more: 5-2 (1 NC)

Marion Reneau is the oldest fighter on the UFC roster (44) and is coming off of 4 straight losses. All signs point that the promotion hand-picked her for Tate to beat.

Also worth noting ... After 11 years as a professional mixed martial artist, Reneau has decided itís time to hang up the gloves and this will be her final fight. Motivation might be a factor.

Flip side ... Miesha seems to have more motivation than ever. She has stated that she is mentally prepared better now than she has been her entire career, with a happy personal life and the newfound love of motherhood following the birth of two children. Also, with a solid performance, the former champ may be on her way back into title contention.

FYI ...

I just checked in with several of my guys in Vegas and almost all of them are on Reneau ... 2 of them went pretty hard and moved the line 10 cents at one of the big shops.

This is one of the few times I disagree ... I'm not budging off Tate.

Miles Johns vs. Anderson Dos Santos has been removed due to wu flu protocol issues in Dos Santos’ camp.

The card will go on with 10 fights.

Jeremy Stephens has been a sharp play with a handful of groups over the past couple of hours

He is coming back up to LW, always comes to war and is in desperate need of a victory ... with that said I didn't touch that fight

0-4 with one No Contest over his last 5 fights, including a second-round KO to Calvin Kattar last time out May 2020. His last win was February 2018, over three calendar years ago against Josh Emmett

Stephens has big power but his chin is shot

Amanda Lemos has violence in her heart and Wallid Ismael as her voice. Girl has that power.

Keep an eye out for her ... Nina Nunes or Claudia Gadelha next would be fantastic matchmaking

Gamrot makes real quick work of Stephens. Submission looks like it will be 1:05

The first since 2009 to force Stephens to submit

Mateusz Gamrot is a problem. A big problem. Now 19-1

Stephens needs to hang it up

Finishes Reneau with ground and pound in the 3rd

The best Miesha's striking has ever looked. Huge improvement in that area

Tates got a nice rack, you know those things are tightly wrapped in a sports bra and they still are mounting out nicely

Makhachev is currently the #7 lightweight in the MMA Fighting Global Rankings

Looking forward to this.

Moises is the definition of a “live" dog who won’t win.

Typical Dagestani fighter ... Smesh and take money

He was easily north of 185lbs in the cage tonight and had the gas entering championship rounds, great sign moving forward

Some may call him a boring fighter, I don't see it. He's going to destroy you at his pace and drown you as he sees fit. Heís excellent in just about every area. A beast, especially on the ground.

He is just the sixth fighter in UFC lightweight history to win eight or more consecutive fights. He joins Khabib, Tony Ferguson, Charles Oliveira, Donald Cerrone, and Gray Maynard

Carbon-Copy-Khabib def. Thiago Moises via submission (rear-naked choke) - Round 4, 2:38

UFC needs to step up and find a way to get him a top-5 opponent next

Islam is a special talent.

After tonight, Makhachev has absorbed only 80 significant strikes through 10 UFC fights

His defense is just as good as his offense
