Americans Trapped Behind Enemy Lines

This botched pullout is one of the worst foreign policy disasters in American history, and that’s no exaggeration. This is especially true since the intelligence community literally warned Biden that the Taliban were ready to take over rapidly if the US didn’t prepare properly.

It’s also true because a huge amount of American civilians are still stuck behind enemy lines. Pentagon press secretary John Kirby has admitted that between 5,000 to 10,000 US citizens are still trapped in Afghanistan. These non-combatants range from industrial contractors to journalists to non-governmental organization (NGO) workers and aid workers.

They are now trapped behind a hostile regime’s forces; meanwhile, Kirby admits that if you can’t get to the Kabul airport, America does not currently have a specific plan to help you. In other words: good luck and stay safe out there, guys.

*Afghanistan is a quagmire of biblical proportions ... Remember our proxy war w/Russia in the late '70's/early '80s, which contributed to the collapse of the Soviet Union. Back when the US, via the CIA and ISI, helped to create Bin Laden and the Mujahideen?

Sickening situation... an old man with dementia should not be making the calls.

Lives will be lost needlessly... it makes me want to puke.

Was the Afghanistan War a failure?
Not for the top five defense contractors and their shareholders.

If you purchased $10,000 of stock evenly divided among America’s top five defense contractors on September 18, 2001 — the day President George W. Bush signed the Authorization for Use of Military Force in Afghanistan — and faithfully reinvested all dividends, it would now be worth $97,295.

In fact, defense stocks outperformed the stock market overall by 58 percent during the war in Afghanistan.

Now, cable news commentators with their own undisclosed ties to the defense industry are castigating President Joe Biden’s withdrawal. The Intercept is reporting on the disastrous corruption of the military-industrial complex and the crises it creates in pursuit of profit.

The U.S.’s 20-year war in Afghanistan mostly remained on the media’s back burner in recent years — until Biden’s withdrawal forced it back into the headlines.

But at The Intercept, we’ve been reporting on the war’s catastrophic consequences, which American military and political leaders have consistently hidden from the public. We’ve revealed the brutal civilian toll of remote drone killings and the ruthless tactics of local death squads backed by the U.S.

And we’ve shown who profits from the war machine, from mercenaries like Erik Prince to surveillance device manufacturers whose biometric tools may have fallen into the hands of the Taliban.

We’re going to keep digging into the hidden toll of the Afghanistan War and how Afghans will continue to pay the price — even if the pundits in Washington, D.C., look away after the withdrawal.

The Withdrawal was botched. Case closed.
Many died and will die, they even left canines to get their head chopped off. The Taliban was scared of Trump. At least he brought fear to the world. I think I'm voting for Trump this coming election. We need men to lead not abortionist lgbt's.

Had the Taliban in a stalemate w/only 2500 troops. Pres. Shit-Britches fucked up hugely!
Austin and Milley should resign now and should have resigned in protest before agreeing to the withdrawal.

There isn't an Iran thread. so, I'll add this to this shit pile.

IRGC Navy unveils homegrown Shahid Soleimani patrol combat vessel, two other military watercraft - Pars Today

The watercraft is equipped with the most sophisticated reconnaissance, surveillance, telecommunications and electronic warfare systems as well as radars. It can identify and monitor designated targets at sea level, below sea level and in the air.

Among other features of the vessel is the use of homegrown self-protection systems, modern communication and telecommunication equipment, various types of encoders and data links.

Unofficial reports claim that it also sports a, Fuck Joe Biden bumper sticker. Just sayin'...

"This is the Islamic Republic of Iran's first domestically-developed warship which is equipped with vertical launch, short-range and medium-range air defense systems," Major General Bagheri said.

He added, "It is also equipped with automatic and semi-automatic systems, in addition to 20mm and 30mm cannons for peripheral defense in case of confrontations with enemy aerial and maritime objects."

The chief of the General Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces further noted that Shahid Soleimani vessel is equipped with the first combined launch system of short and medium-range surface-to-surface (SSM) missiles, enjoys an operation room that relies on an indigenous software for integrated management of combat zones, and has the ability to detect different type of targets and threats and assign them to offensive and defensive systems.
